JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Facility Operations is to operate and maintain all City facilities and City-managed buildings, which represents approximately 900 buildings and includes police, fire, libraries, child care, paramedic posts, recreation, culture, public works, City Hall and other administrative buildings, long-term care facilities, and facility outdoor property. The Facility Operations units deliver facility management and maintenance services within assigned geographic and/or specialty areas.
You are responsible for maintaining, trouble-shooting, repairing and modifying electrical systems and associated ancillary equipment for all facilities of the City of Ottawa. You are also responsible for the construction, assembly and installation of new electrical equipment as required for ongoing building operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Electrician-Construction and Maintenance apprenticeship program of 9000 hours
Additional post-secondary education in electrical and other trades related areas is an asset
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in the installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical equipment such as switchgear, motors, transformers and controllers following acquisition of the Journeyperson’s Certificate.
More extensive exposure to a variety of electrical installations is an asset

Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company fleet vehicles.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and complete repairs on all types of vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance within fleet department.
- Perform preventative maintenance in fleet.
- Respond to service calls.
- Maintain tools and area of work in an organized fashion.
- Pick up and deliver vehicles if required.
- Participate in and adhere to the required safety training.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 year’s work experience.
- Previous experience as a mechanic with light and heavy equipment required.
- 3+ years journeyman mechanic experience preferred.
- Experience repairing and diagnosing gasoline, diesel, and propane engines, automotive electrical systems and material handling equipment preferred.
- Successful applicant will be required to have a Class 1 Driver’s license or be suitable for Class 1 training.
- Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude.
- May be required to supply automotive hand toole (not including heavy duty or diagnostic tools).
- Knowledge of airbrake and electrical systems and components preferred.
- Experience operating Forklifts preferred.

About This Opportunity
The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing health and safety support and expertise to Coke Canada's facilities and operations in Lachine. This includes promoting a positive health and safety culture, developing programs and best practices, ensuring compliance with regulations, site-specific and corporate requirements, and maintaining compliance with required certifications. This role requires someone who is comfortable in a manufacturing environment, able to deliver presentations or training to groups, define and support health and safety improvement projects and carry out detailed/administrative tasks using a computer.
Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate and promote the health and safety culture.
- Define and support health and safety improvement projects.
- Coordinate and administer health and safety committee meetings and reports.
- Carry out training activities.
- Carry out audits/inspections and monitor compliance.
- Provide specialized knowledge to departmental. managers/supervisors/employees to help identify health and safety gaps and opportunities for improvement, and contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of actions.
- Accurately prepare various health and safety performance reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) with pre-defined indicators.
- Maintain and update health and safety notice boards, documents and all health and safety-related communications.
- Participate in local management activities and work in collaboration with the company's corporate QHSE department.
Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years' experience in health and safety, preferably in a unionized work environment in manufacturing, warehousing or distribution.
- Experience in audits and certification process (ISO 14001/45001 an asset).
- Knowledge of federal, provincial and local occupational health and safety and workers' compensation regulations.
- Bilingual in French and English
- Ability to influence others, such as managers, supervisors and employees.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other online tools.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment and stay organised.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others on initiatives and projects to ensure sustainable results.
