Position Summary

This position performs physical and clerical work related to the issuance, inventory and storage of the corporation's mobile equipment, stationary equipment, equipment attachments, and small tools.   This position reports to the Equipment Coordinator.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Assist the Equipment Coordinator in locating, inspecting, maintaining, inventorying and issuing permanently assigned equipment, pool equipment, small tools and equipment attachments to all the operating divisions as required.
  • Utilize computer-based systems to control the daily movement of assigned equipment; performs minor maintenance and upkeep of computer records relating to permanently assigned and pool equipment; utilizes computerized systems to monitor utilization of corporate equipment by operating departments and divisions.
  • Assist the Equipment Coordinator in sourcing the outside supply of vehicles and equipment from various dealers, suppliers and contractors; prepares purchase orders and processes documentation related to rented and leased equipment.
  • Check the condition of outgoing and incoming equipment; ensures that operators are sufficiently familiar with equipment procedures and practices and assists in performing equipment pre-trip inspections with operators.
  • Perform minor maintenance of equipment; prepares and inspects equipment for field readiness and assists in scheduling pool equipment repairs at the appropriate City garage.
  • Assist in commissioning new vehicles and equipment; installs minor components as required; prepares salvaged equipment for disposal; cleans equipment as required.
  • Maintain the order of stored equipment in various compounds and buildings; ensures that equipment is properly secured and stored in good order in various storage areas as directed by the Equipment Coordinator.
  • Operate corporate equipment; performs pick-ups and delivers equipment as required.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

 

  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are gained through the completion of Grade twelve (12) supplemented by courses in office administration, windows-based computer software such as Microsoft Office, bookkeeping and customer services skills; combined with a minimum of three (3) years related administrative experience.  A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years experience operating equipment in a construction or maintenance environment.
  •  Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of equipment operation; familiarity with the City of Regina Basic Equipment Operation Manual.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance and safety requirements related to equipment commonly utilized by the City of Regina Departments.
  • General knowledge of the structure and organization of City of Regina Departments.
  • Considerable ability to communicate orally and in writing and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate and maintain computer-based systems and applications related to the equipment co-ordination function such as M5.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of personal computers and Windows based software programs including Mircorsoft Word and Excel, database and email software
  • Clerical ability to maintain written and electronic records and lists relating to equipment assignments, billing and status
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient relations with employees of City of Regina Departments and Division.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Street Cleaning Operations in the Sanitation Services Branch keeps our City streets, laneways and parks clean. The Operations Worker II drives City vehicles and performs manual labour in the collection of litter, debris and abandoned waste.
Successful applicants' availability must meet Branch expectations in order to continue employment with the Branch. Functional and/or physical assessments related to the bona fide position requirements may be required.

 

This position is for Afternoon Shift only. Afternoon Shift works four afternoons per week, including weekends. Afternoon Shift operates on a compressed work week that includes a 10-hour shift (10:00am – 8:30pm) scheduled over a 7-day work week. The successful candidates may be required to adjust shifts (Day, Afternoon or Night) as operationally required and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

 

The following shifts are currently available and others may be offered according to operational needs:

  • Thursday through Sunday, 10:00am-8:30pm
  • Friday through Monday, 10:00am-8:30pm
  • Saturday through Tuesday, 10:00am-8:30pm

 

Specific Duties

  • Perform manual cleaning with a rake, shovel and leaf blower on assigned maps/beats.
  • Tip/empty litter receptacles on streets and in parks on assigned maps/beats.
  • Clear lanes of abandoned debris on assigned maps/beats.
  • Special events preparation and clean up across the city as assigned.
  • Drivers will dump waste material at the Vancouver Transfer Station or designated compactors or dump zones as needed/directed.
  • Respond to weather specific events that cause risk to public safety or assets in the event of such things as flooding, snow, ice and storms.
  • Document completed work such as pre/post trip vehicle inspections in compliance with Branch policies.
  • Accurately record the results of investigations or work completed in the field in response to Service Requestsfrom 311.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and vehicles.
  • Proper use and storage of equipment and tools.
  • Qualified and trained employees are eligible to operate rear-load Garbage Trucks, Sweepers and Flusher equipment at the higher rate specific to the work for the job classification.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Up to completion of high school.
  • Labouring and semi-skilled experience with small hand tools.
  • Driving experience and knowledge of the City of Vancouver roadways.
  • Experience operating small pick-up trucks, mid to large size trucks, sweepers, flushers, garbage trucks and/or experience operating a Class 3 vehicle or higher preferred.

 

Driver’s License and Record Checks:

  • A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher with Air Brakes and a Satisfactory National Safety Code driving record is required

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor VI (Water Operations), this position operates, inspects and maintains the water distribution system and appurtenances to ensure the delivery of safe water and reliable system operation. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates and troubleshoots all water system components to de-energize, re-energize, inspect and maintain the water distribution system.
  • Inspects, and performs minor maintenance of, valves, hydrants, service connections and appurtenances.
  • Performs field sampling and testing of basic water quality parameters.
  • Responds to customer service enquiries regarding water pressure, quality and quantity.
  • Installs, removes and maintains various temporary water services.
  • Monitors and maintains system instrumentation for water loss management, including flow meters and pressure monitors and uses leak listening equipment as required.
  • Performs hydraulic evaluation of the system, including fire flow and c-value testing.
  • Monitors cathodic protection system continuity and performs minor repairs.
  • Conducts pipe cleaning programs, including conventional flushing, unidirectional flushing and swabbing to maintain water quality.
  • Responds to, and resolves, water contamination events, including water main chlorination and de-chlorination procedures.
  • Provides direction and support to staff assigned to assist in the operation, inspection and maintenance of the water   distribution system.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of all field activities and prepares required reports, including inspection and test results and recommendations for repair.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate, Three years’ experience related to water or sewer systems
    INCLUDING
    One year of experience operating and inspecting water distribution systems.
  • Possession of Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.
  • Possession of Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset.
  • Possession of Level 3 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.  
  • Must comply with all safety related requirements
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.


Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
:

  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, equipment, tools, materials and terminology used in operating, inspecting and maintaining water distribution systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various water distribution system problems and customer concerns, operate all valves, hydrants and other water distribution system appurtenances.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform basic field sampling and testing for water quality, using approved techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to make mathematic calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors and civic employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties in varying weather conditions and extremes of temperature.
  • Skill in the use and care of computer hardware and related software.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Certified Operator Salary Range: $29.40 to $31.43 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
Operator-In-Training Salary Range: $26.52 to 27.22 CAD per hour (2023 Rates)

  • Familiar with various steel products, oils/lubricants
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment which includes stamping and assembly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) and general computer applications

Overview of the Role

This position will ensure availability of manufactured & procured products into Regional Distribution Centers to satisfy regional customer requirements. Working within the Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) group, the position is accountable to use a companywide integrated plant scheduling and procurement tool to provide production planning, finished goods procurement, and materials coordination services. Position will involve managing inventory and plant scheduling functions at multiple locations and therefore must have demonstrated understanding of procurement and supply chain principles. A highly interactive role in the organization, requiring effective facilitation of inter-department, analysis and problem solving within the Saputo supply chain.

 

Salary: $65 010 - $85 329

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Ensure the Distribution Center(s) have the Right Product, in the Right Quantity, at the Right Time.

  • Maintain on-going and effective working relationships with local/regional management (Production, Warehouse & Delivery, Sales, Forecasting, Customer) and SCO group.

  • Monitor the inventories of all finished goods, ingredients and packaging materials, and continuously replenish them to the optimal levels.

  • Maintain and manage the relationships with National purchasing group, and all suppliers of ingredients and packaging materials.

  • Provide production schedules/orders to the plant, monitor production order fulfillment, and act accordingly with the plant to maintain the fulfillment at the acceptable level.

  • Work with National Transport group to assist coordination of interbranch movement of finished goods.

  • Coordinate ordering and stock levels during product introductions/de-listing to minimize shortages/disposals.

  • Identify shortages-disposals -product supply issues in a timely manner

  • Analyze continuously and implement improvement in local supply chain to reduce cost, improve service.

  • Participate in interdepartmental projects

  • Other duties as assigned.

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

  • University degree in Supply Chain or a related field

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Inventory Management, experience in the food industry, an asset

  • SAP experience would be an asset

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office (Excel, Powerpoint)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid team player, with strong interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven track record of effective problem solving and decision making
