The Fitness Centre Worker is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Park Board fitness centres. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing patrons on equipment and enforcing rules of conduct and fitness centre policies. The Fitness Centre Worker will also demonstrate exercises and the proper use of equipment to individuals and groups. The Fitness Centre Worker is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining the fitness centre and its equipment, making minor adjustments and repairs as needed. The Fitness Centre Worker will treat minor injuries and make necessary arrangements for the treatment of more serious accidents and provide accident reports to a superior as required. All applicants must also attach their First Aid and any other relevant certifications to their application.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 10
- Completion of a physical education course through a recognized educational institution is preferred.
- Considerable experience in the use of Fitness Centre equipment and some experience interacting with the public is desirable.
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate is required
- Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate is required.
- BC Recreation & Parks Association Registered Weight Training Instructor or equivalent required, Personal Trainer preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the methods used in proper exercise programs and the use of exercise equipment.
- Knowledge of the theory of movement, body mechanics and the prevention and management of sports injuries.

Additionally they may be required to handle cash at times, in order to assist with covering breaks and shift overlaps.
The Cook/Grill Worker will be responsible for the plating and presentation of food to specifications and cooking for a varying number of guests during peak and non-peak times providing consistent results. Maintaining a clean kitchen, the Cook/Grill Worker is responsible for following hourly, daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules, and performing other related tasks such as washing dishes, pots, pans, storage areas and floors as required. The successful candidate will be able to provide exemplary customer service to all patrons and ensure compliance of liquor licensing regulations at all times. Main Purpose and Function
Under direct supervision of the Superintendent, this position completes a variety of tasks which can include mowing, landscaping, line trimming, raking, edging, fertilizing, operating specific turf care equipment, and performing other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must be prepared to work in various golf course locations within the organization. The hours of work are typically at 5:00 AM and may include weekends and statutory holidays. This position may be for employment at any of our six golf course properties which include 3 Championship and 3 Pitch and Putt courses.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Up to completion of high school.
- Experience in golf course maintenance or landscape maintenance.
- An educational background in turf grass management/agronomy is an asset.
- Level I first aid is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, rules and safe operation of tools, materials and equipment used in golf maintenance operations.
- Knowledge of the game of golf and how the maintenance team contributes to the success of the operation.
- Ability to exercise considerable independence of judgement and action in the work.
- Ability to courteously answer questions and deal with the public.
- Aptitude in the operation and servicing of maintenance equipment and in the use of tools used in minor repair tasks.

Main Purpose and Function
The Engineering Assistant III (EA III) is a part of a multi-disciplinary team that prepares GRI designs for construction in right-of-ways and other public spaces. The position focuses on drafting and drawing production and undertakes a variety of other duties including field work, research, and technical and administrative tasks in the Green Infrastructure Implementation Branch.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafts conceptual, intermediate, and final designs of moderate to higher complexity using AutoCAD.
- Assembles plan sets for various project stages including tendering and issues for final construction and post-construction as-built/record drawings.
- Performs construction site inspections, prepares field reports and supports the engineer of record and project manager with site instructions and change orders.
- Coordinates with stakeholders, engineers and senior staff to develop designs according to design standards and engineering principles.
- Prepares specification and contract packages and facilitate procurement.
- Updates green infrastructure asset data inventories and GIS as-built information.
- Produces and organizes project documentation as per Engineering Services Quality Management System.
- Prepares research, technical studies, reports and presentations on topics of moderate complexity, including undertaking relevant field observations and notes and verifying accuracy of the content.
- Acts as a technical liaison to partner groups, such as Development and Major Projects and other Engineering Services Branches.
- Supports the development and enhancement of City design guidelines, drafting standards and overall design consistency.
- Performs tasks related to green infrastructure monitoring, including data collection, data processing, and analysis.
- Coordinates with contractors to direct inspections, maintenance, and construction work.
- Creates maps, graphics, and presentations for internal and external communication, including working with GIS software such as MapInfo or ArcGIS and graphic programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and PowerPoint.
- Performs general administrative duties including data entry, taking meeting minutes, taking and organizing photos, and procurement administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with post-secondary education in engineering technology, transportation, or landscape architecture, plus considerable experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of grading and drainage design and the principles of green infrastructure rainwater management.
- Moderate to highly skilled in AutoCAD with practical experience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings is required.
- Additional software skills in MapInfo, ArcGIS, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, including an understanding of the components of typical construction plan sets and packages.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, with little or no supervision, under tight deadlines, and sometimes outdoors in inclement weather.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and external contacts.
- Ability to work with and provide input into branch process changes.
Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work a hybrid work week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
