We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic or 3rd-4th year apprentice to join our team. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of our heavy equipment and machinery. Your expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our equipment fleet.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other construction machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems before they escalate.
  • Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components of heavy equipment.
  • Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques.

 

Qualifications and qualities:

 

  • Experience with SIS and ET.
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with team members and equipment operators.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Driver (Material Handler) to join our dynamic Logistics  team.

 

The Logistics team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by utilizingbest practices to ensure the safe transportation of personnel, donors, equipment, blood products and supplies. Our Drivers do more than drive.In this role, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donor events are ready for use in addition to transporting people and products integral to Canada’s Lifeline.

Formula for success

  • Utilizing your experience with driving and transportation you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures and are kept at an appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors and/or volunteers travelling with you. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation. 
  • Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required. 
  • You will assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs.  
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will work with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to centre.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 4 drivers license or 1-3 with knowledge test and a clean commercial drivers abstract from within the last 30 days. 
  • Minimum 24 months verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years. 
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. A second language is considered an asset.

  • There will be no long haul or cross border driving required. 
  • Travel will be required to attend mobile events, and transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical capability to load, unload, push and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies. This will include stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to [11 kg (25 lbs.) OR 23 kg (50 lbs.)], pulling, and pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform.

    • Develop and recommend financial reports to support external legislative reporting, including the annual report, public accounts, and commodity taxes.
    • Create financial models and reporting tools for decision-making, such as long-range financial planning, fee reviews, and cost accounting.
  • Policy and Procedure Development:
    • Lead the development and documentation of accounting policies, guidelines, and procedures in compliance with PSAS, City policies, and related legislation.
    • Conduct procedure research and analysis to identify trends and issues.
    • Ensure data integrity and support process improvements within the scope of Municipal Benchmarking Network (MBN) reporting.
  • Project Management and Staff Supervision:
    • Develop project plans, monitor and report on project status, and support stakeholders with testing and process improvements.
    • EBS upgrade and systems analysis.
    • Supervise, plan, organize, and direct the activities of assigned staff, providing recruitment, training, performance evaluation, leadership, and mentoring.
    • Develop ad-hoc reports on a corporate and departmental basis.
    • Contribute to team projects and effectively participate as a team member.

Key Qualifications

  • Typically, the knowledge, skill and abilities required are obtained through a University degree in Accounting, supplemented with ongoing related training, education and experience. Willingness to continue to develop professionally and keep up with relevant trends; an accounting designation is a strong asset. In addition, three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, 3-5 years progressively responsible experience in relevant financial systems, preferably Oracle EBS and related modules
  • Strong customer service focus with an attitude of continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly as they relate to financial systems and Public Sector Accounting Board Standards.
  • Ability to prepare complex municipal financial analyses and reports, including sections of the annual report and MBN reporting.
  • Proficiency in interpreting CPA and PSAB handbooks and implementing guidelines as required.
  • In-depth knowledge of computerized financial and operating systems, especially Oracle EBS, and the ability to train others in new technology and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the chart of accounts, design principles, data integrity, reporting, and PSAS.
  • Strong understanding of corporate financial business processes, policies, and procedures, and the ability to document and analyze internal control systems.
  • Advanced skills in developing and working with complex databases.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to define problems, analyze data, document findings, and make effective recommendations.

This position collaborates with senior business stakeholders and senior Technology professionals to identify corporate business drivers and opportunities to increase the value and usage of data for organizational decision making, performance management, and operational efficiencies. This position contributes to the development of the Technology Department business plans and leads development and implementation of the corporate Data Management Strategy with a focus on data culture, data architecture, security and integration, business intelligence and analytics, data standards and policies, and ensuring alignment of data strategies and activities with corporate priorities, strategies, and business plans.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and regular updating of the City's enterprise-wide data architecture and Corporate Data Management strategies.
  • Analyze corporate business drivers to develop data architecture and management requirements, leveraging synergies between business operations and digital technology to enhance corporate data value, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.
