Overview of the Role

Saputo Dairy Products G.P. is seeking a passionate Supervisor, Quality Assurance to partner with the Operations team in Orangeville, Ontario. The Supervisor, Quality Assurance’s primary responsibilities encompass leadership of the site’s employees to ensure food safety and customer requirements are met and that all manufactured products are of the highest levels of quality. This position give you the opportunity to work alongside a great team, take ownership and establish necessary quality processes and controls to elevate the products and monitor and report the integrity of the plant sanitation program while ensuring the quality interest throughout the operations.

Salary:  $76,265 - $100,100

*Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training.

How you will make contributions that matter:

• Monitors, reviews and implements quality programs to ensure compliance to CFIA/HACCP and customer/third party and internal audit requirements;
• Ensures internal liaison with the appropriate parties to communicate and/or address any quality issues;
• Investigates and resolves quality deviations and customer complaints; reporting and communicating findings as necessary;
• Verification and monitoring of in-process food safety and sanitation controls while applying expert knowledge of dairy products
• Ensures consistent application of best practices related to testing/inspection methods, analysis and auditing techniques;
• Timely communication of quality issues to local management and upper management as they arise;
• Reports trends and communicates key food safety and quality parameters and participates in correction of negative trends;
• Maintain hold and release program
• Supervise and coordinate laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance requirements
• Ensuring compliance to company standards for environmental monitoring programs
• Provides training, support and maintains Saputo Dairy Products Canada G.P.’s quality standards;
• Health and Safety:
• Supervision, evaluation, motivation and training of personnel to ensure work is completed efficiently, effectively and safely;
• Ensures that safe conditions exist at all times within the work environment; takes appropriate and effective measures to provide for the health and safety of employees;
• Develops and fosters strong and effective functional and cross-functional teams;
• Administration of Company Policies and Procedures;
• Collaborate with various departments and the plant operations team on a daily basis;
• Delegate food safety and quality tasks to the QC team as required;
• Proficient at decision making, risk assessments and evaluating quality issues that might arise;
• Undertake other functions as required;

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

• A degree/diploma in Food Science or Microbiology is preferred;
• 5 + years experience in the food industry, specifically dairy is preferred.
• Previous management experience in Quality or operations within the Dairy, beverage or food processing industry is preferred;
• Goat dairy knowledge is an asset;
• Sound communication and interpersonal skills;
• Strong organizational and analytical skills and a strong team orientation;

Summary of functions

Saputo offers a positive, clean environment that is conducive to your professional development! The incumbent will be responsible for carrying out various maintenance and servicing tasks on the equipment of the various production and bottling lines, the building and the plant services.

Available schedule:

Daytime Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 1 weekend out of 6 at night.

Salary:  We offer a starting salary of $36.15/h (evaluated based on experience) with evening (+$1.25/h) and night (+$1.75/h) premiums upon hiring. 

• Carry out the installation, maintenance and mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repair of equipment in the various automated production and packaging lines;
• Perform inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment;
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment when it breaks down to ensure production targets are met;
• When assigned to certain sectors, carry out surveillance rounds of fixed machine equipment;
• Carry out work according to established priorities, availability of equipment and materials required;
• Facilitate compliance with deadlines and efficiency in the production and packaging of dairy products;
• Communicate the progress of work and projects to the people concerned;
• Provide training to plant employees as needed;
• Working with external companies to carry out projects;
• Carry out electrical installations;
• Perform fault analyses and suggest measures to improve process efficiency;
• Ensure that planned work is carried out on schedule.

The qualifications sought are:

• 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position;
• Post-secondary training in a related field (electromechanics, industrial mechanics, automation, etc.);
• Possess the MMF class 3A competency certification (an asset), otherwise be prepared to complete the process of obtaining the certification (paid by Saputo);
• Have an electrical certificate (license C or CRCA certificate) (an asset);
• Training and experience with PLC (an asset);
• Master common IT tools (MS Office suite);
• Experience with maintenance management software (an asset);
• Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical mind;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Initiative, proactivity and excellent work organization skills;
• Be available to work shifts, holidays and weekends (casual).

Performance Expectations

• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply
• Network and waste and drainage systems
• Assemble, install, repair, and maintain domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
• Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors
• Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
• Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines
• Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
• Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
• Travel to job sites to complete work
• Train and oversee apprentices and labourers
• Ensure that all work is completed according to plumbing code
• Maintain and organized and clean work vehicle and work site
• Cleaning the job site after work is completed
• Answer client questions
• Complete work orders
• Work rotating on-call for emergency service
• Complete jobs independently or as part of a team, depending on the specific assignment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Credentials

• Successful completion of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, preferably in a technical program.
•  Successful completion of a current Ontario license for Journeyman Plumber 306A or Pipefitter 307A. A 307A steamfitter license is also acceptable and or Sr. Apprentices
•  Minimum of 3 years experience, or schooling
• Willing to learn on the job
• Good math and measurement skills
• Excellent manual dexterity
• Exceptional active listening and problem-solving skills
• Plumbing license (senior apprentices will also be considered)
• Gas Technician 3 (asset but not required)
• Gas Technician 2 (asset but not required)
• Backflow tester (asset but not required)
