Main Purpose and Function
Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations, the successful applicant will work as part of a comprehensive team of LR professionals working to develop LR strategies that support key corporate and HR business-unit specific objectives.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the LR Team, the LR Consultant works collaboratively and strategically as a member of the Human Resource Services Department, liaising with other HR and operational staff to provide advice on a wide range of issues with a particular focus on labour relations including:
- Interpretation/application of collective agreements and labour legislation, dispute resolution, grievance and arbitration work.
- Taking a leadership role in collective bargaining processes.
- Conducting investigations of formal complaints under the City’s Respectful Workplace and Human Rights and Harassment Policies.
- In collaboration with HR and LR colleagues, managers, staff and our unions, assisting the organization to achieve desired objectives and addresses issues of concern in a manner that fosters a positive employee relations environment.
Qualifications
- Candidates will have considerable background in labour relations with an excellent understanding of labour jurisprudence, relevant labour legislation and demonstrated experience in the area of consultation, grievance handling, collective bargaining, dispute resolution, investigations and negotiation skills.
- Candidates will possess a related university degree or diploma; considerable experience in consultative or advisory roles and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and strategically in a team environment.
- Candidates will also have excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching and facilitation skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, clients and union officials.
- Experience with strong team building skills and a proactive approach to problem solving in a rapidly changing environment would be an asset.
- Skilled at anticipating business needs and identifying risks and opportunities, and moving to action, you are a proactive problem solver who has worked extensively in a rapidly changing environment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs skilled shop and field work in repairing, building, overhauling and maintaining a variety of machinery, mobile equipment, hydraulic systems and components and structures.
- Responsible for carrying through to completion, the construction, assembly, installation and repair of a wide variety of metal parts, tools, and machines and usually involves working with large and heavy pieces as well as various small instruments.
- Responsible for substantial amount of millwright work.
- Receives written and verbal assignments accompanied by sketches or blueprints, layouts and by reference to broken, worn or sample parts. Included is the use of a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to lathes, grinders, milling machines, drill presses, threading machines and related hand and power tools.
- Operates heavy equipment and trucks into positions for repairs and alterations as required.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by the successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the Machinist trade.
- Machinist Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.) of British Columbia or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement
- Red Seal certification is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the Machinist trade supplemented by considerable experience as a Millwright.
- Thorough knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment in finishing and fitting a variety of metal parts and objects in the maintenance, overhaul and repair of construction and maintenance equipment.

- Accredited project management training (e.g. PMP certification, tertiary qualification) and/or construction management experience would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards, and specifications, as they relate to the municipal environment (IES RP-8, CEC etc)

INTRODUCTION:

In this role you will:
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Support the Regional Director and Regional Manager Administration by acting as a point of contact and subject matter expert on new initiatives:
- Lead and support new ScotiaMcLeod initiatives and support change management processes within the region
- Create and lead new campaigns within the region
- Acts as point of contact for branch management teams with questions on new policies and initiatives
- Work with head office partners on addressing questions or concerns from the field
- Support branch management teams in ensuring a high level of success is achieved through effective operations and administrative efficiencies
- Act as a liaison between branches and head office, and support departments to ensure efficient resolution to all issues
- Act as delegate of Regional Director on regional compliance and policy approvals
- Provide back up to support to both Regional Manager Administration as needed
- Build effective working relationships across the branch management teams and with various business line departments
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
