The Communications Branch of the Paramedic Service is responsible for optimization of CACC services, paramedic system improvements and associated quality improvement programs, effective and efficient paramedic deployment, and public reporting.

You are responsible for providing optimum emergency medical call taking and dispatching services for the Eastern Ontario Catchment Area in accordance with Provincial legislation and City of Ottawa policies. You provide quality and accessible dispatching services in response to the needs of the client/patient.  Service is provided in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

Under direct supervision, you receive and assess calls for medical assistance, provide medical pre-arrival instructions to callers, and deploy emergency vehicles and paramedics to obtain maximum coverage and efficiency. Calls received include, but are not limited to: emergency/distress calls, request for medical service, general information, general inquiry and complaint calls.  Dispatch duties include assigning the most appropriate ambulance/resource (i.e. air ambulance, bike team, marine and tactical teams) to respond to the location of the emergency and providing the ambulance crews with all pertinent information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One year of post-secondary education in Emergency Communications, Public Safety or Health Care.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in a customer service field (face-to-face or telephone).
 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification course is desirable
Current Emergency Medical Responder certificate (EMR) is desirable

KNOWLEDGE

  • Superior understanding of the concepts and procedures of medical oriented dispatch and pre-arrival instruction to callers in emergency situations.  
  • Working knowledge of aircraft operations (e.g. safety aspects to provide pre-arrival instructions to callers, of response time to effectively schedule ambulance rendezvous, of specialized equipment such as incubators).
  • Thorough knowledge of medical and technical terminology and all aspects of ambulance operations.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate sections of the Ambulance Act, Mental Health Act, Coroners Act, C.A.C.C. Manual of Practice, Dispatch Priority Card Index, and A.S.5-D Manual.
  • Superior knowledge of streets, roadways, communities and transportation systems.
  • Ability to interpret various plans and maps.
  • Working knowledge in policies and procedures of Emergency Medical Services
  • Working knowledge of current methods, techniques, and theories used in pre-hospital care at the Basic and Advanced Life Support levels and ability to apply them competently.
  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of the various types of equipment and vehicles used by Ottawa Paramedic Service.
  • Working knowledge in utilizing corporate software used in the Ottawa Paramedic Service Communications, including but not limited to radio, telephone and computer systems i.e. CAD, Outlook, Word, Internet and any technological upgrades.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

We are seeking a Mobile Guard (on-call) to project a security presence, which may include operating a vehicle to perform patrol, inspection, and/or incident response services. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides mobile guarding services to project a security presence, which may include operating a vehicle to perform patrol, inspection, and/or incident response services; maintains radio or other communications contact with office or base to report status or incidents, or to request additional assistance or response. 
  • Checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, security violations, and unauthorized persons; inspects buildings, grounds and security devices; monitors and sets security devices. 
  • Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; sets up barriers and signage, and provides direction or information to others. 
  • Prepares logs or reports as required for patrol route; writes and/or types of reports and/or enters information in a computer using standard grammar; inspects security control logs and takes action as required. 
  • Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances and/or as required. 
  • Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for assignment, by the company, or through training or certification. 
  • Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required. 
 QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ontario Security Guard License.
  • Valid G Driver's License with a clean driving record (min 5 years).
  • Availability to work rotational shifts, evenings and nights including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency in using security equipment and technology.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service.

Hours of work are subject to business operation needs.

Hourly Rate: $ 26.93

 

How you will make contributions that matter:

 

  • Automated & manual cleaning activities in the Production and/or Warehouse areas (including power equipment).

  • Routine checks of responsible work areas.

  • Safe operation of production equipment and/or warehouse material handling equipment.

  • Inventory counts & restocking of supplies.

Rate of Pay - $20.00/hour + mileage

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and replenish products in store racks, shelves, displays, and coolers by transporting product between backroom/storage room to front-of-store with manual equipment (pallet jack, hand-truck).
  • Build, change or remove product displays while adhering to company standards; maintaining product signage; cleaning product space and securing damaged or defective product.
  • Repetitively lift, carry and position product (weight up to 50lbs or 22kgs) above shoulder height without assistance
  • Consistent kneeling, squatting and reaching above the head
  • Manage backroom by organizing stock (product); identifying, monitoring, and reporting inventory levels; evaluating and processing damaged product; re-packing product; organizing backroom materials (i.e., pallets, product shells etc.); completing any required paperwork
  • Follow all Coke Canada Bottling and Store policies regarding backroom, display floor, replenishment, equipment, and safety
  • Maintain an orderly and clean work area in compliance with Company safety and sanitation requirements.    
  • Maintain professional relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to push and pull manual and powered equipment (i.e. pallet jack, hand-truck etc.) containing product loads for a minimum of 100 yards without assistance
  • Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time

Qualifications

  • Must be 17 years of age
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for use during working hours
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record with no major violations over the last three (3) years
  • One (1) year experience working in grocery, retail, warehousing or related field preferred
  • Experience working with manual or powered pallet jacks preferred
