Formula for success

  • Utilizing your experience with driving and transportation you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures and are kept at an appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors and/or volunteers travelling with you. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation. 
  • Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required. 
  • You will assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs.  
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will work with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to centre.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 4 drivers license or 1-3 with knowledge test and a clean commercial drivers abstract from within the last 30 days. 
  • Minimum 24 months verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years. 
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. A second language is considered an asset.

Job Details

Reports to the Senior Transportation Engineer. This position performs professional engineering duties involving various aspects of transportation planning and engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collects, compiles, analyses, and manages traffic data to complete engineering assessments, plan and design the operation of traffic control systems, and develop traffic calming devices.
  • Utilizes traffic analyses software for intersection analysis, traffic simulation, and network optimization.
  • Conducts level-of-service/capacity analysis and warrant calculations to ensure adherence to standards, bylaws and policies.
  • Prepares roadway, intersection and corridor functional planning studies.
  • Develops and maintains neighbourhood traffic plans.
  • Provide transportation engineering services within the Transportation Division, to other civic departments, general public, external agencies and land developers.
  • Represents the Transportation Division on planning, design, and construction projects led by other civic departments, external agencies and land developers.
  • Provides engineering support to the Senior Transportation Engineer and the Engineering Manager.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining engineering design geometric standards, and developing and maintaining transportation planning and engineering policies, bylaws, and guidelines.
  • Assists in completing transportation engineering reviews of development applications, subdivision design and other submittals to the Transportation Division as required.
  • Assists in the planning, design, monitoring, operation and maintenance of active transportation facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Degree in civil engineering.
  • Four to six years’ progressively responsible professional engineering experience in transportation.
  • Registration or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Considerable knowledge of traffic engineering principles in an urban environment.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, budgeting and financial procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and present complex technical reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff, civic officials, representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)

  • Receives, screens and expedites telephone, written and in-person enquiries and determines appropriate action and provides follow-up, as required
  • Provides a wide range of confidential administrative duties for the Mayor's Office.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of City Divisions and their functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of people (government representatives, elected officials, public, media, and civic staff).
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to handle large volumes of work and sensitive timelines.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgement and to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing demonstrating skill in adapting diverse communication techniques to evaluate situations and identify problems within established guidelines.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of MS Office suite in a Windows environment.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $64,463.28 to $75,744.48 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
