As a Truck Driver III in Pavement Operations during the summer season and in district for winter season, you will be responsible for the operation of a truck and auxiliary equipment rated with an Alberta Government licensed gross weight in excess of 13,000 kg.
Tasks may include:
- Operate trucks above a GVWR or 13,000 kg with a trailer less than 4600 kg, such as tandem axle truck, sweeper, flusher and walk plow, safely and efficiently, following truck routes as required
- Deliver people, materials, equipment and parts to field crews
- Haul, load, and move equipment and materials, including asphalt, between work sites
- Conduct daily maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and/or greasing according to manufacturer or City maintenance schedules
- General labor duties, such as manual sidewalk cleaning, pothole, and asphalt repairs, flagging, and other duties as operationally required
- Complete paperwork and reports, such as defect slips, manifest logs, and safety and damage reports
- Perform all work in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
- Operate a tandem or single-axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
- Load and unload materials
- Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment

Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 8
- 1 year of experience operating the vehicles assigned to this position in Paving Operations
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, including taking direction from others
- Ability to work independently under minimal or no supervision
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the class, specifically in the presence of various weather and environmental conditions such as dust and noise
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the season
- Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of this position

In this role, you will be responsible for spearheading the development, implementation, auditing, and monitoring of our occupational health and safety program, in alignment with all relevant legislative requirements, industry best practices, and our City Standards. Your pivotal role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders, including senior leaders, supervisors, project managers, engineers, and frontline workers, to provide them with essential guidance, direction, and support on safety-related issues.

- Ensure that all employees are supported with occupational health and safety subject matter expertise
- Protect employee safety and organizational liability by attending worksites in response to occupational health and safety matters
- Assist in preparing administrative controls such as procedures, plans, and practices to address safety concerns, control hazards, and reduce injuries or property damage
- Support, educate, and guide people leaders with decision-making regarding the application of City policies for maximum protection of liability
- Assess the effectiveness of the COE and Client safety programs in reducing work-related incidents through pulse checks or internal auditing of specific program elements
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management to advise them on their safety performance and recommend improvement opportunities
- Lead severe and catastrophic incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
- Ensure organizational compliance with OH&S laws and contractual agreements by reviewing and assessing third-party safety plans, procedures, and practices for the safe and effective delivery of work
- Assist in promoting COE health and safety campaigns to inform and engage employees in participation
- Contribute as a stakeholder to the review and development of COE safety standards
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on ideas and solutions
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Degree, Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline with coursework in health and safety
- Degree - Four (4) years experience, Diploma - Six (6) years of experience as an OHS professional, with loss prevention experience and working knowledge in areas such as process safety management, safety management system development and implementation, incident/injury prevention, hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis. Equivalencies with years of experience and education may be considered
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Construction Safety Officer (CSO) would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of municipalities, municipal governance and unionized environments
- Knowledge of internal and external audits, the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program, and/or ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard
- Experience with Contractor Management is considered an asset for this position.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage with frontline workers, managers, project managers and executives
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Google applications such as Gmail, Gchat, Meets, Docs, Sheets and Slides
- Strong time management and organizational skills in order to prioritize activities, adapt to change, and stay focused in a dynamic environment
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills to effectively analyze situations and problems, identify root causes, and recommend solutions
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Applicants may be required to arrange their own transportation for use on City business, and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy

Up to 2 temporary, full-time positions for up to 11 months
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday; overtime work may be required.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
