Primary Accountabilities
Under the general supervision of the Fleet Service Coordinator, the Mechanic II diagnoses equipment failure, repairs, rebuilds and adjusts a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment used to perform road maintenance activities for both summer and winter operations. You will use specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work, assist with field repairs as required, and other related duties as required to complete equipment repairs, modifications and/or preventative maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience
You have completed high school and have a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade plus five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.
Upon hire, applicants will be required to successfully complete Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training as part of their probationary requirements.
A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes and acceptable driving record is required.
A Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment and Air Conditioning Certification are desirable. Knowledge of computer controlled diagnostic technology and computer competency are considered assets. Successful completion of training and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, First Aid and WHMIS are further assets to be considered.
You consistently demonstrate initiative in your role; remaining up to date in changes to equipment, methods and technology within the mechanical field. Your exceptional communication skills will assist you when working with staff to help diagnose and resolve equipment issues. You are a self-motivated individual who works both independently with minimal supervision and participates fully as an effective team player. You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for clients.

Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to bring clean dishes, flatware, and other items to serving areas, set tables neatly and efficiently, and replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and serving areas as needed, ensuring guests have everything they require
- The candidates should be able to carry and replace linen, ensuring tables are properly dressed for dining, clear and clean tables, trays, and chairs promptly to maintain a clean dining environment, and load buspans and trays with used dishes and utensils for efficient transport to the kitchen
- The candidates should be able to keep records of the quantities of food used accurately to manage inventory effectively, package take-out food securely to maintain freshness during transportation, and portion and wrap foods neatly and consistently to ensure uniformity and hygiene
- The candidates should be able to prepare, heat, and finish simple food items according to established recipes and standards, serve customers at counters or buffet tables with attentiveness and professionalism, providing a positive dining experience, and stock refrigerators and salad bars with fresh ingredients to ensure availability for service
- The candidates should be able to take customers’ orders accurately, listening attentively to preferences and special requests, and use manual and electrical appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foodstuffs efficiently and safely
