Job Summary

Under supervision of the Supervisor VI (Sewer Operations), this position performs a variety of labouring duties within the Sewer Operations section.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responds to and performs labouring requests that can include rehabilitation of manholes, catch basins, assisting the operator of the Hydro-Excavator truck in a variety of soft-digging and day-lighting operations, assisting with the repair of water main valves and curb stops.
  • Supervision of hand crews when Supervisor VI is not present.
  • Operates related tools and equipment, e.g. jack-hammer, saw cutting tools, hoists and skid-steer loader, as required.
  • Installs road warning signs and barricades in accordance with approved standards. Responds to enquiries and concerns from contractors and the public.
  • Performs routine safety checks and servicing, e.g. maintaining fluid levels and greasing, of equipment such as one-ton air compressor saws, skid-steer loader and other related tools for the job.
  • Identifying problems with existing grade levels, structural deficiencies, compaction process and recommends corrective measures.
  • Consults with the meter shop staff, as required, and informs them when jobs are complete.
  • Ensures an appropriate inventory of supplies are available.
  • Complies with current Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including confined space entry procedures.
  • Performs the duties of the Waste Water Inspector as required.
  • Participates in on-going training, including operator certification training as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • One years’ related experience with repairing and rehabilitating sewer systems, or approved equivalency.
  • Level 2 Water Distribution Certification and Level 2 Water Collections Certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of a recognized skid-steer loader operator safety training certification program within 3 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of trench safety training, confined space, fall protection and H2S awareness training, training provided upon hire.
  • Successful completion of confined space rescue training, training provided upon hire.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3AG license.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of a valid first aid certificate, training provided upon hire.

This position performs professional engineering work related to municipal water &sewer and roadways projects, including providing project management and supervising staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.    Manages the planning, design, and construction of complex water & sewer, roadways and other municipal rehabilitation or land development capital projects within the City of Saskatoon.
2.    Coordinates with internal civic departments, regulatory agencies, and utility companies on the planning, design, and approval of construction projects.
3.    Prepares preliminary and detailed cost estimates for budgeting and approvals.
4.    Coordinates with an internal project team consisting of survey, drafting, and engineering technicians to develop detailed construction drawings, material selections, technical specifications, contracts, and procurement documents.
5.    Reviews contractor tenders or proposals for compliance with specifications, schedules, and budgets.
6.    Manages municipal water & sewer, and roadways contractors to confirm projects are following the contract standards, specifications, and regulations while also ensuring delivery within the project budget and schedule.
7.    Ensures constant and effective communication between all project stakeholders including civic staff, contractors, regulators, the public, and municipal politicians as required.

Qualifications

•    Degree in Engineering.

•    Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
•    Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

  • Use survey software to download, process and manage survey data.

Job Summary

This position provides professional, confidential, administrative, and executive secretarial support to the Roadways, Fleet and Support, and Water and Waste Operations Departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative, executive and HRIS support to the management teams in the Roadways, Fleet and Support as well as the Water and Waste Operations Departments.
  • Prepares, edits, and circulates a variety of correspondence, including those of a confidential nature, on behalf of the management groups.
  • Assists with administrative tasks for annual performance assessments for management staff in the Department Sections.
  • Oversees the processing of memos, reports, internal and external correspondence so that they comply with corporate standards and assists in preparation of presentations.
  • Receives, screens, and expedites telephone, written, and in-person inquiries and determines appropriate action.
  • Maintains office equipment and manages office supplies.
  • Ensures accurate filing and record management system use and ensures compliance with corporate records policies.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of special events for the Departments.  
  • May perform the duties of the Secretary III, and other clerical positions in Roadways, Fleet and Support as well as the Water and Waste Operations Departments, as required.
  • Oversees and coordinates payment of invoices, fees, departmental purchase orders, purchase requisitions and service entry sheets.
  • Coordinates with the planning and implementation of recall and new hire of seasonal staff.
  • Compiles and records data into the Enterprise Asset Management program and prepares various reports and summaries using operation and financial data.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Graduation from a recognized business college or post secondary institute.
  • Two years’ related senior secretarial experience. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in supporting management in a unionized setting, including application of collective agreements and relevant policies.
  • Experience using CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems), WRR (work request registry) and SAP software would be an asset. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with typing, use of office equipment, and computer and Microsoft office use (particularly Excel) and SAP.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public and other civic employees.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to compile and coordinate information to compose correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

1.    Coordinates the planning, design and construction of municipal infrastructure projects and programs.
2.    Coordinates engineering site assessments and maintains records.
3.    Coordinates site inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

Qualifications
