To autonomously diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform procedures for residents in the Long-Term Care Homes and Services Division within their legislated scope of practice.
Major Responsibilities:
- Delivers primary health care to residents in the Long-Term Care Home in the management of acute and chronic medical conditions, therapeutic management, health promotion and disease/injury prevention in order to deliver comprehensive health services.
- Conducts focused health assessment using and adapting assessment tools and techniques based on resident needs.
- Completes health history into resident's situation, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural and ethnic dimensions of health.
- Performs physical examination and identifies and interprets normal and abnormal findings.
- Orders diagnostic investigations, and interprets results using evidence-based clinical reasoning.
- Synthesizes health information using critical inquiry and clinical reasoning to formulate a diagnosis, health risks and states of health/illness.
- Communicates with residents about the health assessment findings and/or diagnosis, including outcomes and prognosis through the application of knowledge of pathophysiology, psychopathology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, behavioural sciences and family processes when making diagnoses and providing overall therapeutic management.
- Selects appropriate interventions from a range of non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions to restore or maintain resident functional, physiological and mental stability to achieve optimal health.
- Promotes safe resident care by mitigating harm and addressing immediate risks for residents and others affected by adverse events and near misses.
- Participates with the Medical Director and other senior management staff in the development and implementation of evaluation processes and the identification of strategies to continually improve clinical outcomes and effectively manage risks.
- Collaborates with senior management in the Division and other community health services in initiatives for the development, implementation and evaluation of systems to promote continuity of resident care across the continuum.
- Ensures Accreditation Canada standards are evident in daily practice.
- Ensures resident files and health care records are properly maintained in compliance with applicable legislation and divisional expectations.
- Identifies, and collaborates with the Medical Director on, educational programs for the care team.
Key Qualifications:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Primary Health Care or Adult) and entitled to practise.
- Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in long-term care, acute care, rehabilitation, continuing care or primary care.
- Experience in long-term care, with providing empathetic/relational care for the elderly and those living in long-term care, and clinical work experience with frail older adults, critical care, and mental health as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Certification in Geriatric Nursing from the Canadian Nursing Association or equivalent experience.
Must also have:
- Ability to incorporate knowledge of diversity, cultural safety and the determinants of health in the assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic management of residents and the evaluation of outcomes
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively
- Leadership skills, working well within an inter-professional team and ability to foster effective working relationships
- Ability to provide clinical supervision, education and mentoring for nursing students, medical students, and other learners, including residents/families
- Ability to develop and implement evaluation processes and identify strategies to improve clinical outcomes and manage risks
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use computer software such as MS Office applications, email and web applications
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders as well as work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to support the Toronto Public Service Values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces
- Ability to work shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and statutes, including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Fixing Long-Term Care Act

We’re looking for a Senior Administrative Support to join our growing team for a 12-month contract or Secondment!
Within our hybrid working model, this position is located in Cambridge, Ontario.
What you’ll do here:
- Perform various recurring administrative tasks including the accurate set up of claims using the Guidewire system.
- Monitoring the claims mailbox for new reported claims, claims inquiries from insureds, brokers, lawyers and other stakeholders.
- Use of varied systems to retrieve policy documents including endorsements and Schedules.
- Process vendor invoices within Guidewire.
- Post recovery cheques in Guidewire.
- Provide updates to various stakeholders including financial status, investigation and / or legal status as applicable.
- Preparation of First Notice of Committee reportable claims to subscribing insurers.
- Review, initiate and sent new claims to appropriate IFC teams.
- Minute taking and distribution to Claims department for monthly meetings.
- Provide support to claims examiners including sending files to counsel electronically, downloading files into Guidewire as required.
- Provision of data on monthly basis for internal file reviews /closed file reviews for audit purposes.
- Provision of data and Guidewire reports as required by the Claims Director.
- Generating spreadsheets for insureds, insurers and other stakeholders as required.
What you bring to the table:
- 3-5 years experience in an Administrative or Office support role in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer driven and passionate about building strong internal and external working relationships.
- Proficiency in a variety of platforms, tools and MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Highly organized and able to manage workflow efficiently without continuous supervision.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn.
- University Degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role.
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

The Transportation Services' Traffic Management Section is seeking Transportation Engineers for the following units:
Active Traffic Management (One Temporary and One Permanent Position)
This unit is responsible for the Transportation Operations Centre (TOC - a.k.a RESCU), which manages both highway and arterial roadways to minimize the impacts of road incidents and unexpected congestion. The TOC implements traffic management and traffic control strategies that improve operational efficiency and manage traffic flow to enhance safety and capacity in real time. The TOC utilises and manages intelligent transportation systems and other sources to detect traffic incidents, notify emergency responders, and provide up-to-date traveller information to the public.
Traffic Systems Planning, Design and Capital Coordination (One Temporary Position)
This unit is responsible for all design related activities for traffic signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This unit also provides project management, technical expertise and engineering input while overseeing traffic signal and systems design and construction activities undertaken by third parties such as Metrolinx, MTO, developers and TTC.
Traffic Operations (One Permanent Position)
This unit is responsible for providing project management, technical expertise and engineering input into addressing complex traffic operations issues. These issues include congestion management, neighbourhood infiltration, Complete Streets implementation strategies, transit network, operational studies and Vision Zero initiatives for all road users.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Your primary responsibilities as a Transportation Engineer, reporting to the Manager of the applicable above-noted unit, will be varied, but you’ll be expected to:
- Develop leading-edge Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) initiatives and find pragmatic solutions to transportation problems which satisfy the City's economic, environmental, and social responsibilities.
- Carry out and/or direct design and construction projects related to the modification, expansion or upgrading of traffic signal infrastructure (including bike signals, pedestrian crossovers, electronic controller equipment, detection, etc.), and the demonstration, expansion or upgrading of projects such as transit signal priority and emergency vehicle pre-emption, adaptive signalling, communications, variable message signs (VMS), CCTV cameras, traveller information systems, vehicle detection, etc.
- Review technical reports to provide input, comments and guidance.
- Prepare and review a variety of documents, such as contracts, policies, procedures, procurements, specifications and agreements.
- Prepare terms of reference for consultant/contractor assignments.
- Direct the work performance of external service providers with respect to quality, timeliness, cost, and completion of required tasks.
- Prepare technical and other necessary reports and submissions for the information of, and as required by, the Division and City of Toronto Council.
- Supervise project team members and support staff, including work term students.
- Develop standard operational procedures for traffic management, traffic operations and ITS functions.
- Develop standards and specifications related to traffic signal and ITS infrastructure and equipment, and update operation manuals to reflect operational practices due to technological changes.
- Monitor system networks, ITS equipment and network usage and performance.
- Liaise with the public, Councillors, the media, consultants, contractors and other transportation agencies on matters relating to the delivery of assigned capital projects.
- Work with various internal stakeholders including Technology Services and the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer, among others.
- Prepare and make presentations to senior divisional managers and other internal stakeholders.
- Establish, maintain and foster linkages to other units throughout the City and colleagues in other municipal, provincial, and federal governments to ensure effective partnerships.
- Maintain an awareness of developments and advancements in relevant fields to retain technical competency and provide state-of-the-art advice.
- Review drawings, engineering studies, specifications, plans and cost estimates prepared by consultants as they pertain to construction or modification of ITS and traffic signal facilities.
- Respond to enquiries from the public, City staff, members of Council, interest groups, and government agencies regarding traffic management issues.
- Provide work direction and training to unionized and non-unionized staff.
- Undertake random checks and monitor work performance by contracted staff.
- Prepare training course materials and conduct training and demonstrations for users of the traffic management systems.
- Assist the Manager and Senior Engineer in developing budgets and estimates, including the Unit’s annual operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor expenditures for assigned projects and activities, and provide regular reports to the Senior Engineer and Manager.
- Secure all engineering permits and approvals as may be required from external agencies.
- Perform and/or review research on new technical developments and practices related to traffic management systems and operations.
- Program, operate and maintain a variety of electronic, mechanical, digital, analog, wireless, and computerized equipment that is part of the existing Traffic Management infrastructure.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to support the needs of the Traffic Management Section.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), and membership in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- A university degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation systems, Electrical Engineering or a discipline pertinent to the job function, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Education in multiple disciplines would be an asset.
- Extensive experience in the planning, design, and construction of projects related to Street Lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal operations, traffic signals and systems, advanced traveller information systems (ATIS), advanced traffic management systems (ATMS), and communication systems.
- Considerable experience in project management, leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams for medium-large ITS and traffic signal deployment.
- A valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and access to a reliable personal vehicle for use on City business.
- Experience on Communication Network Architecture and related hardware will be considered an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical, electronics and communications equipment for traffic control systems.
- Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate with stakeholders, project participants and partners, special interest groups, the media, the general public, elected officials, internal and external clients and consultants.
- The ability to work in a team, take initiative, self-manage, and be accountable, flexible, and adaptable.
- Prioritization, organization and leadership skills to multi-task, track and manage budgets, and schedule and manage the work of consultants, vendors, contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.
- The ability to work outside of regular business hours, when required.
- Highly developed analytical and diagnostic skills to organize records and data, and prepare specialized technical reports, with the ability to perform effectively in a system operations environment.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, Acts, By-laws, and Regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Device, National Transportation Communications for Intelligent Transportation System Protocol (NTCIP), International Municipal Signal Association standards, National Electrical Manufacturers Association standards, Ontario Traffic Manual, Ontario Provincial Standards, City of Toronto road system, and City of Toronto Uniform Traffic By-laws.
