Job Summary: As a member of the BGIS Sustainable Cleaning Solutions Team, you will be generally responsible for cleaning in a designated zone with an emphasis on quality control, health and safety & striving to exceed client expectations. 

Key Responsibilities: Functioning as a core member of the operational team and reporting to the Manager/ Supervisor as a Cleaner you may be required to perform some of the following tasks as required by the Manager/Supervisor and needs of the client:

• Clean floors by sweeping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
• Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors. (The washing/scrubbing of floors is done with handheld or auto scrubbers. In large open applications, automatic equipment may be used to perform these functions) 
• Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with power equipment when required 
• Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors including washroom floors. (The washing/scrubbing of floors is done with handheld or walk behind buffing machines. In large open applications, automatic equipment may be used to perform these functions) 
• Transport garbage from drop points to garbage bins or compactor 
• Transport maintenance machinery, where necessary, between floors and job sites 
• Cleans and stores equipment and machinery used
• Cleans glass areas requiring ladders, scaffolding or other extension equipment to reach. 
• Cleans washroom floors including stripping and finishing 
• Cleans stairwells and elevator cabs where ladders are required 
• Loads and unloads supplies and replenishes cleaning solutions
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures

Job Requirements:

• Experience in performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalized environment.
• Experience in using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials and solutions.
•  Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work including WHMIS.
• Ability to lift, push and pull heavy items as well as climb ladders.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients and the general public.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays and shifts as assigned as well as work in multiple locations.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain manual and electronic records.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

We are currently recruiting for a cellar worker to support our team in Malagash, located in Northern Nova Scotia. A cellar worker is responsible for general winery work that includes sanitizing tanks, hoses and other general cleaning.  Work assignments can include pumping wine, tank additions, barrel work and other wine related tasks.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals that will work closely with our cellar team and report to our winemaker. This position is a full-time, year round, permanent position.

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will have a desire to work in an efficient and safe manner.  An interest in wine or agriculture is desirable.  Ability to live in rural, Nova Scotia or in commuting is necessary. Practical experience working in a wine cellar, food production, or manufacturing environment is desirable but not necessary; we will train suitable candidates.

Job descriptions and responsibilities:

Daily/year-round tasks

• Ability to work within the standard operating procedures established in our cellar, crush pad and bottling line
• Follow a written list of cellar tasks accurately and complete in a time- effective manner.
• Clean/sanitize and sterilize winery equipment and tanks.
• Maintain an organized, clean and safe cellar environment.
• Perform wine movements such as racking with different types of pumps
• Filter wines with various types of filters (plate and frame, Cross flow, DE).

Harvest tasks

• Work on the crush pad when grapes are received. Tasks include weighing bins of grapes, running crusher/de-stemmer, grape elevator and operating the presses.
• Fill, empty and thoroughly clean presses (Membrane presses).
• Clean grape bins, crush pad and all grape processing equipment on a regular basis
• Perform pump-overs/punch-downs, red fermentation tank dig outs and racking.
• Perform sugar and other additions to juice/wine
• Prepare yeast and inoculate juice
• Add nutrients to juice/fermenting tanks
• Work bottling line.

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist develops, leads and executes health, safety and environment programs for assigned accounts and ensures ongoing compliance to all internal, and external and regulatory requirements to assist the account team in mitigating and managing environmental, health and safety-related risks and improving related performance.  In addition, the Health, Safety, and Environment Specialist assists the Health, Safety, and Environment team in the development and deployment of health, safety, and environment management system and associated tools, processes and procedures according to applicable external management systems. The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist adopts a portfolio and systemic approach to implement the HSE management system, as well as interprets and advises on all HSE regulatory matters to ensure compliance with government legislation and industry standards.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

• Develop, execute and govern health, safety and environment programs and promotes a high health, safety and environment culture for the assigned accounts
• Provides guidance and advice to account and client team members on health, safety, and environment matters in accordance to all applicable internal and external requirements.  Applies knowledge of related regulations
• Collaborates with account teams to ensure team members are provided with adequate tools and resources to ensure the safe execution of work
• Collaborates on a daily basis with the client subject matter expert to implement initiatives and provide feedback from various work streams including the Projects and Operations teams
• Maintains health, safety, and environment management systems registration including but not limited to ISO 14001, CSA Z1000, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001.  Conducts internal systems audit and executes annual re-registration process requirements
• Achieves health, safety and environment objectives for assigned accounts
• Develops, manages, improves and leads key performance indicators as related to HSE (LTIR, TRIR, Near Miss reports, Halocarbon leak reports, spills, etc.)
• Develops and continuously improves health, safety and environment management system and associated processes and procedures according to applicable external management systems
• Assists client with coordination of employee engagement initiatives (e.g. Waste Reduction Week, Earth Week) and corporate HSE events (e.g. Safety & Health week)

Program Execution

• Investigates and resolves incidents

• Reviews and implements modifications to work plans, processes, procedures to reduce recurring incidents and improve health, safety and environment performance

Communication & Training

• Develops and delivers health, safety and environment training to account and client team members

• Liaison with Authorities Having Jurisdiction to maintain compliance
• Delivers training sessions for new/revised legislation that may impact business functions for various work streams

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• College degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences or master’s degree in Environment, Environmental management or Environmental science
• 3 to 5 years of health, safety, and environment program execution work experience
• Knowledge of health, safety and environment regulatory requirements

• Communicate monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance.
• Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.
• Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective/preventative measures are implemented.
• Hold effective, weekly tailgate meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed.
• Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives.
• Ensure the schedule for the terminal is followed.     
• Work with the Terminal Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock.

In the role of Delivery Driver / Warehouse Relief (afternoon shift) working in Moncton, NB, the successful candidate will work with the distribution team to deliver products in a safe, timely and efficient manner, provide courteous and professional customer service, assist with the shunting of trailers when needed, work in warehouse and provide relief support for absences related to vacation, training, sickness and other competing priorities.
