The Water Distribution Branch manages the operation and maintenance of City of Ottawa’s water distribution system to ensure the continuous and adequate supply of high quality potable water to customers at the lowest cost, including condition assessment, leak detection, operation, repair and maintenance of all mains, valves, and services within the distribution system; inspection, maintenance and repair of fire hydrants; and support to City capital and private development works related to water distribution buried infrastructure. 

You are responsible for providing manual labour to support other Unit or Branch staff with the inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of Water Services infrastructure.  You are also responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the City’s fire hydrants, and providing other support to the Unit.

The Wastewater Collection Branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Linear Collection infrastructure.
You are responsible for performing or assisting with inspections, maintenance and general repairs of the City’s sanitary, combined and storm sewer system structures (e.g. access/maintenance chambers, catch basins, inlet/outlet grills, regulators, manhole covers) that don’t require excavation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10 

Minimum of 2 months of related experience

JOB SUMMARY

You are responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to program staff by performing word processing/typing, data entry, and filing activities; compiling and providing information pertaining to program documents and reports; maintaining program inventory; liaising with internal staff, external stakeholders, and members of the public; purchasing goods/services; scheduling meetings; and responding to inquiries and complaints.   

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 1 year of post-secondary training in office administration or related field

Minimum of 2 years of related office/administrative experience

KNOWLEDGE

  • General organization and activities of the specific program/unit/branch/department
  • Corporate, departmental and branch policies and procedures
  • Office practices and procedures
  • Corporate Records Management system
  • Corporate computer and software applications such as Windows, Word, Excel, Access, etc.

JOB SUMMARY

The Waste Collection unit is responsible for residential waste collection programs and services (including garbage, recycling, organics, and yard and leaf waste) for the two collection zones awarded to the City (currently totalling 114,119 homes). 

You are responsible for operating vehicles and equipment and performing general labour in the collection and disposal of trash, brush, organics, solid waste or recycling materials (blue/black boxes).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10

The driving of heavy road equipment; knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules; and experience in recycling and refuse collection are assets.
 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

KNOWLEDGE

  • Practices, equipment and vehicles used in waste services
  • Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operation
