As a Plumbing and Gas Safety Codes Officer III, your role will encompass providing specialized technical knowledge concerning compliance with the Safety Codes Act. This responsibility includes conducting thorough reviews, issuing necessary permits, and performing inspections upon request. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring adherence to regulations for residential structures, as defined in Part 9 and Part 3, along with any other installations relevant to the National Plumbing Code and the B149 gas codes. Your contributions will be essential in upholding our organization's commitment to safety and regulatory compliance

- Provide mentorship and guidance to plans examiners on:
- Interpretation of codes and related regulations, policies and procedures for reviewing complex building designs, application of codes
- Liaise with various departments on technical issues related to Safety Codes
- Review and assess permit applications for construction, renovation, or modification of buildings and structures, ensuring alignment with municipal bylaws, plumbing and gas codes, regulations, and other local standards
- Perform on-site inspections during various phases of construction, renovation, or alteration to verify adherence to the approved plans, the Alberta Safety Codes Act, and the National Plumbing Code, B149
- Communicate findings to applicants through detailed correspondence and reports, guiding them through the resolution of issues related to their permit applications and monitoring compliance to address any deficiencies
- Authorize the issuance, suspension, revocation, or extension of permits, maintaining precise records in the POSSE system
- Compile and distribute reports or correspondences that summarize site observations, including any deficiencies, actions taken, and recommendations made
- Facilitate the integration of approvals from various departments such as Fire Rescue Services, environmental and transportation departments
- Development Appeal Board, Alberta Health Services, and others, ensuring comprehensive compliance and coordination
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade
- Journeyman plumber and gasfitter certification recognized in Alberta with a minimum of six (6) years’ journeyman experience
- Registered Plumbing & Gas Safety Codes Officer in the Province of Alberta
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle License
- Minimum of 3 years as a Registered Safety Codes Officer with both plans examination and field inspection
- Knowledge of standard methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment employed in the plumbing and gas fitter trades with experience involving projects of any size
- Full knowledge of codes, the Safety Codes Act and Permit Regulation
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills to work with a variety of applicants with varying understanding of codes
- Detail oriented, with visual acuity and ability to examine and understand technical plans
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills and the proven ability to manage staff and build a culture of trust
- Full knowledge of applicable National Codes (National Plumbing Code of Canada, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, Alberta Private Sewage Systems Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Electrical Utility Code
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) is a requirement of this position. Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s Permit may be a requirement of this position

The City of Edmonton is currently recruiting energetic and responsible individuals to ensure the safety of facility patrons and staff at our recreational facilities. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Lifeguard, safeguard and supervise customers using the facility
- React to emergent situations and perform first aid as needed
- Prepare and submit administrative reports
- Check and regulate chemical feed equipment
- Take and record water test results
- Direct and perform maintenance duties
- Provide quality customer service to facility patrons
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Completion of High School Diploma or GED
- Possession of Current: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award (NL), and Aquatic Emergency Care Award (AEC) or Government of Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Possession of current Swimming Pool Operators Certificate, Level I - A.A.R.F.P. is considered an asset
- Skills and knowledge to complete fitness skills assessment as outlined in the award guide
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques for water safety, lifesaving activities and first aid
- Knowledge of technical aspects of operating an aquatic facility
- Knowledge of public and occupational health guidelines related to the operation of an aquatic facility
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communication, customer service, organization, time management and prioritization skills required
- Experience with pool mechanical systems is an asset
- All certifications must be kept current according to the certification organization standards
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Evening and weekend availability is required
