Job Responsibilities:

• Retrieve and review tooling prints for material and machining requirements.
• Perform some aspects of the tool/die component build for new and existing tools as directed by the tool &
die maker requirements.
• Work is completed through use of milling machines, drill presses, assorted grinders, band and cut-off
saws, lathes, lay-out tables, measuring equipment and heat treat ovens.
• Maintain the required forms for the purpose of recording the number of hours spent on each project.
• Ensure that all environmental requirements are identified and addressed when performing duties.
• Ensure that all safety requirements are being carried out when performing duties.
• Comply with defined Business Management and Environmental Management Systems requirements.
• Provide support for the continuous improvement initiatives within Techform.

JOB SUMMARY

The Wastewater Collection Branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Collection infrastructure and systems including communal wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater system, and oversees the Sewer Use Program.    

You are responsible for performing or assisting with inspections, maintenance and general repairs of the City’s sanitary, combined and storm sewer system structures (e.g. access/maintenance chambers, catch basins, inlet/outlet grills, regulators, manhole covers) that don’t require excavation. 

Work activities are divided into the following groups and staff rotate through them on a regular basis: in-sewer inspection, in-house repairs, surveys, routine cleaning, special cleaning, service truck and inspection of contractor construction/major repairs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12

Minimum of 15 months of experience in sewer maintenance or a similar construction or maintenance field 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Must obtain Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer
Forklift Operator Licence
Hoisting and Rigging training certificate
Chainsaw Operator Safety training certificate
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.

Performance Expectations

  • Prepare and ensure compliance with preventive maintenance checklists and other standardized procedures in the absence of the maintenance supervisor.
  • Develop maintenance KPI’s in conjunction with the maintenance manager that show quantifiable values indicating effective and efficient progress towards achieving maintenance objectives.
  • Tracking and trending data to develop departmental metrics on percentage of work order completion; benchmarking; overtime; planned maintenance completed on time.
  • Tracking deferred maintenance plans and development to reduce the backlog.
  • Assist in planning of annual major shutdown activities, and weekend work as needed when production operations are not running and repairs or PM’s / TPM’s must be executed.

 

Credentials

 

Millwright 433A License Required or equivalent knowledge and experience.

· Able to read schematic drawings in order to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

· Ability to troubleshoot and determine resolutions when encountering malfunctions in equipment.

· Knowledge of phone systems, network cabling, security systems, door access systems and video surveillance systems is an asset.

· Able to work rotating shifts and weekend work, as needed.

· Travel may be required between Guelph facilities.

You will assist with Maintenance, Engineering and Leadership to ensure safe, steady, and reliable operation of the units.

  • Job location: Horizon site, Fort McMurray, AB
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shift, Wednesday start

Key Accountabilities

  • Learn the unit layout, purpose and operating parameters of the assigned systems 
  • Operate and monitor process equipment 
  • Assist in maintenance and repair of process equipment
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose upsets and problems 
  • Rotate job positions as directed by the Shift Team Leader
  • Assist the Shift Team Leader to assess incidents and participate in Team Safety Meetings and follow up on assigned items

What you Bring to the Role:

  • 3 to 5 years of industry experience with High School diploma or GED 
  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate required, 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate preferred. 
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Cogen Units, HP Boiler Plants, Steam Turbines, and Water Treatment. 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent)

Job Details

Under the supervision of the Supervisor VI, this position operates various types of equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates various types of equipment such as forklift load packer, automated side-loader, rear loader, tandem trucks, front-end loader, garbage compactor, bulldozer, scraper and patrol.
  • Operates light equipment, including various trucks to provide site maintenance, snow removal, sanding, and litter control.
  • Maintains staff facilities and sheds, including fuel, lube, and fluids area.
  • Maintains and services equipment being operated.
  • Assists with training and instruction of proper operating and servicing procedures.
  • Maintains appropriate service records.
  • Assists with the servicing of equipment.
  • Prevents accidents through an orderly direction of traffic, screening waste at points of unloading, enforcing posted rules. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Grade 12 education or must obtain GED within 12 months of hire.
  • Five years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment. 
  • Successful completion of, or must complete a recognized training module for heavy equipment operation.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Learner’s Licence, and must obtain 1A Driver’s Licence within 2 attempts.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
     

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: 

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, and the uses and maintenance characteristics of the equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods used in loading, transporting and unloading refuse, materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to observe and analyse the operating capability of other operators and to instruct and train in the process involved.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public and other civic employees.
  • Ability to perform the services required to assist the mechanical and service staff.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Additional Requirements

Shift and weekend work may be required. 

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $30.39 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
