Working under limited supervision when supporting assigned service calls, utilizes intermediate skills to perform preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, building systems equipment and grounds within a geographical area/route potentially across multiple sites. What You’ll Do:

  • Inspects building systems including Fire, Life Safety Systems, HVAC/R, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client. Troubleshoots and reports on failures and other major issues for specialized repairs.
  • As requested, inspects the work performed by outside contractors.
  • Supports an energy management program to ensure measures are taken to operate all systems in the most efficient manner to keep operating costs at a minimum.
  • Maintains lighting systems throughout the facility, cleaning fixtures and replacing bulbs and lamps.
  • Performs carpentry, painting and furniture assembly tasks as needed.
  • Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
  • Report and communicate daily all work activity via Smartphone.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Under the general supervision of the Fleet Service Coordinator, the Mechanic II diagnoses equipment failure, repairs, rebuilds and adjusts a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment used to perform road maintenance activities for both summer and winter operations. You will use specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work, assist with field repairs as required, and other related duties as required to complete equipment repairs, modifications and/or preventative maintenance.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

You have completed high school and have a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade plus five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.

Upon hire, applicants will be required to successfully complete Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training as part of their probationary requirements.

A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes and acceptable driving record is required.

A Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment and Air Conditioning Certification are desirable. Knowledge of computer controlled diagnostic technology and computer competency are considered assets. Successful completion of training and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, First Aid and WHMIS are further assets to be considered.

You consistently demonstrate initiative in your role; remaining up to date in changes to equipment, methods and technology within the mechanical field. Your exceptional communication skills will assist you when working with staff to help diagnose and resolve equipment issues. You are a self-motivated individual who works both independently with minimal supervision and participates fully as an effective team player. You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for clients.

• Assists the Plant, Building & Safety Manager in the inspection of buildings, grounds and equipment; carries out preventive maintenance program actions;
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and to process work orders;
• Requests necessary materials, supplies, parts and tools required and maintains control of storage and use;
• Takes every precaution that is reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees, residents and all others in the workplace.

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A High School Diploma or completion of equivalent education
• 1-2 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance
• Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
• Advanced Proficiency in English required, other languages considered an asset
• You can provide a clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening

Job Details

Saputo offers a positive and clean work environment that is focused to your professional development! Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll be responsible for boiler related duties as well as maintaining / monitoring and repairing production equipment.

 

Salary: We offer a starting salary of $36 with evening (+$1.25/hour) and night (+$1.75/hour) premiums.

 

Schedule: We offer a permanent and full-time position on a fix schedule. Evening and weekend shifts will be required.

 

How you will make contributions that matter:

 

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of essential facility equipment such as Boilers, Compressors and Refrigeration Systems;
  • Responsible for the reparation and maintenance production equipment both processing and packaging;
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment in breakdown situations

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

 

  • Possess a minimum three (3) years experience in a related field
  • Possess a Class 4 Power Engineering Certificate
  • Possess experience with mechanical overhaul, shop machines and tools
