Formula for success

  • Utilizing your experience with driving and transportation you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures and are kept at an appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors and/or volunteers travelling with you. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation. 
  • Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required. 
  • You will assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs.  
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will work with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to centre.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must possess a valid Class 4 Unrestricted BC drivers license and a clean commercial drivers abstract from within the last 30 days. 
  • Minimum 24 months verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years. 
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment.

  • Implement and maintain a Containerization policy to ensure that an inventory of customer returnable packaging is maintained as required
  • Ensure that repairs are being carried out on returnable containers in a timely fashion
  • Arrange for the disposition of returnable containers at the end of a program’s cycle 
  • Ensure that appropriate containers are being distributed to designated work cells

Job Details

The Shunt Driver is responsible for ensuring proper, safe and timely handling of inbound and outbound trailers within the Terminal Yard. The successful candidate must ensure they maintain a clean work environment with a focus on proper handling techniques and safety. You are also responsible for working on the dock loading and unloading freight into trailers. 

Sunday 12am - 10pm - Monday / Tuesday - Thursday 10pm - 8am 

How You’ll Help: 

  • Move trailers to and from the dock doors. 
  • Park and organize equipment in the yard. 
  • Conduct a yard check, which includes recording trailer numbers, refer settings, fuel level, trailer contents or seal numbers. 
  • Load and unload freight via forklift and physical lifting
  • Conduct reefer check including unit number, reefer settings and fuel level.  
  • Seal trailers and verify required. 
  • Ensure yard is clean and operated in a safe manner. 
  • Assist Line haul and P&D Drivers with locating, positioning and other equipment requirements. 
  • Assist on Dock regularly. 
  • Moving and handling large and cumbersome freight in a dock environment (50-75 lbs) 
  • Operating a Forklift in congested areas. 
  • Report any incidents of safety violation or security breaches. 
  • Other related duties as may be required. 

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of Secondary education  
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred; at least 1-year experience driving a shunt truck is preferred.  
  • Class 1 license preferred but not necessary with applicable experience. 
  • Forklift Certification. 
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. 
  • Self-motivated. 
  • Safety-minded. 
  • Communication skills – good. 
  • Able to work deadlines in high transactional environment. 
  • Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues. 
  • Results focused. 
  • English, other languages considered an asset 
  • Able to work with little supervision
