This role is a key member of the TD Securities Human Resources team and will work with the business partners to provide balanced and practical solutions on a range of human resources issues. 

 

As a key partner, the Senior HR Business Partner's responsibilities include providing strategic and consultative support to the TD Securities businesses including Global Markets, Governance & Controls, Data & Delivery and Marketing, Communications and Colleague Engagement portfolio on HR initiatives to drive business value & growth.

 

The role will liaise with Centers of Excellence on all aspects of HR including talent development, resource and succession planning, recruitment, total rewards, employee relations and performance management.  The successful incumbent will be accountable to provide ongoing sound advice and guidance to business Leaders on all people related matters, including assessing organizational needs/capabilities and develops people strategies and programs designed to achieve business objectives and enhance organization effectiveness.  They will also be responsible for leading talent management and acquisition initiatives to position the business to successfully anticipate, execute and meet both current and future talent requirements. 

  • Develops and executes HR strategies, within own level of authority, aligned with enterprise-wide HR objectives, values and philosophy, and TD Bank Group’s business strategies / objectives

  • Works closely with the senior leadership team and acts as a trusted advisor across all aspects of HR, people planning and management to ensure business objectives and plans are delivered

  • Partners across the broader enterprise and with HR colleagues to influence and implement programs, policies and practices

  • Supports the attraction, development and retention of talent – partners closely with business leaders to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time and that diversity in the workplace is a high priority

  • Monitors appropriate HR measures to assess the effectiveness of HR strategies for the business and ensures compliance with the organization’s policies and regulatory requirements 

  • Anticipates the HR implications of business strategies and initiatives and advises and influences the leadership team accordingly

  • Enables effective talent planning to ensure high potential resources are identified for key positions and appropriate plans are developed and implemented to support succession plans

  • Anticipates and manages the concerns of multiple stakeholders and ensures all parts of the function are provided with high quality advice and support for their HR needs

  • Participates on various internal / external committees and project teams as appropriate 

  • Stays abreast of new developments in HR internally as well as external strategies and practices

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications Required:

  • Undergraduate degree, and Masters in Business Administration is an asset

  • 10+ years of experience in Human Resource management with a deep understanding across multiple disciplines. Strong preference for experience within Capital Markets, Wealth Management or Asset Management.

  • Proven leadership of large change programs and processes in partnership with the business, demonstrating the ability to act as a catalyst for change

  • History of successful client Relationship Management, particularly at the Executive level, and adept at interacting with diverse groups of colleagues

  • Proven ability to develop and execute on strategies and delivering superior results, both in short and long term and in alignment with overall business strategies

  • Supports the attraction, development and retention of talent - partners closely with business leaders to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time and that diversity in the workplace is a high priority

  • Proven ability in developing and deploying a vision and aligning others to that vision.  

  • Known for providing creative thought leadership, while also listening to and engaging others to provide input in shaping the vision

What You’ll Bring:

The Employee Relations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by partnering with and supporting Leaders to achieve their business objectives in a highly regulated, complex, and challenging environment.   • Leveraging your knowledge and expertise, you will participate in collective agreement/contract negotiations either by providing input related to operational issues or local market trends and or as part of the employer bargaining team. Recommend, participate, and carry out investigations on workplace harassment and problem resolution as well as other employe relation issues. 
  • You will represent People, Culture and Performance and local business units at arbitration and third-party hearings. 
  • Using your ability to analyze complex issues and determine the best solution or course of action to meet client needs, you will provide advice, consultation and recommendations on displacement and termination issues, including attending meetings with employees as required. 
  • You will encourage, support, and endorse and may participate in regular Labour Management Committee Meetings and problem-resolution grievance meetings to ensure issues are identified, addressed, and resolved in a pro-active manner.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a University degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (C.H.R.P) designation is preferred. 
  • 5 to 7 years of related experience in an operational and strategic Business Partner role within a unionized environment. 
  • A thorough understanding of HR best practices, trends, developments, and strategic programs, as well as related employment, labour relations and human rights legislation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.  
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect

Education

Professional Experience

  • Experience in working with stakeholders across the business.

About the Opportunity:

  • Books off employees in accordance with the Collective Agreements, defined regional/facility rules and Shannex policy
  • Follows established guidelines to fill vacant shifts resulting from immediate book offs, unfilled positions due to vacations/holidays and leaves of absences, per established guidelines and Shannex policy
  • Receives and processes requests for unplanned leaves and requests for additional staffing, etc.

  • Verifies all schedules for accuracy prior to being shared with managers for review and sign off
  • Works collaboratively with the Workforce Coordinator and operational leaders to assure that all scheduling needs are met

Position Summary

Reporting to a Senior Human Resources Consultant, we are looking for an experienced professional to come on board as our newest Human Resources Business Partner. Your in-depth understanding of human resource practices will allow you to consistently support strategic objectives while developing creative solutions to organizational challenges. This role will have the opportunity to significantly influence, and impact assigned client groups within the organization.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Building strong relationships with managers and employees to have a positive impact on work relationships, building morale, increasing employee commitment, engagement, productivity, and retention.
  • Providing support for employee/labour relations issues, including internal dispute resolution, policy/procedure interpretation, Collective Agreement interpretation, counselling and actively participating in the handling of complaints, grievances, investigations etc.

  • Responsible for providing advice and guidance to the hiring manager in conjunction with the Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS), assisting with special work arrangements (e.g., job sharing, modified work arrangements, etc.).
  • Leveraging employee data (e.g. exit interviews, survey results, turnover analytics) to improve employee engagement, performance, and retention.
  • Acting as a change agent in efforts to create positive workplace culture, employee empowerment, accountability, continuous improvement, and ongoing learning.
  • Proactively managing the identification and resolution of team-related issues.

Key Qualifications

  • CPHR designation is considered an asset.
  • Business Advisor level knowledge in employee/labour relations.
  • Experience in organizational effectiveness and HR program design and delivery would be considered an asset.

Job Description

 

The incumbent is part of a team responsible for the receipt and resolution of all Pay and Time related enquiries from Supervisors and Employees. The agent is the first point of contact for Supervisors for all pay defect enquiries and is required to have in-depth working knowledge of various Payroll/Time Management/Human Resources and Benefits policies, processes and systems as well as legislative issues affecting pay.
 

Job Responsibilities

 

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Clerk, HR Contact Centre: 

 

1.    Answers all enquiries received by the HR Contact Centre through all communication channels.  Is responsible to evaluate the applicable problem and exercise the required discretion and judgement when selecting the appropriate course of action to resolve the situation to the mutual advantage of the employee and the Corporation.  Initiates analysis of issue by referencing systems (e.g. SAP, case management tool), reports (e.g. SAP), external third party reports (e.g. Ceridian), legacy interfaces (e.g. IRMA, LCRMS, AIMS) and sensitive employee-specific data.  Enquiries can be initiated by internal employees, internal people managers, and external corporate partners (e.g. Great West Life, government agencies, etc.).  In cases where resolution is extremely time-sensitive and could be immediately impacting employee pay, takes action to resolve or escalate as appropriate. 

 

2.    Creates cases based on information gathered during contact and monitors cases that users create using the self-service functionality.  Monitors all pending enquiries to ensure timely resolutions.  Tracks the progress of unresolved or outstanding problems to ensure proper action is being taken and escalates problems, as required, within the prescribed timeframe to the second level of intervention.  Communicates the results to both callers and supervisor.

 

3.    Requires in-depth working knowledge of various Payroll/Time Management/Human Resources and Benefits policies, processes and systems. Requires working knowledge of all collective agreements with respect to employee total compensation.  Maintains a thorough knowledge of policies, processes and systems to ensure consistency and accuracy of responses.

 

4.    Educates and recommends to the caller corrective action required regarding SAP entries pertaining to Organization Management, Personnel Administration or Time Management.  Guides the caller through processes as required.

 

5.    Recommends to the caller self-service options available through Employee Self-Service (ESS), and educates and guides employee through processes as required.

6.    Provides specific details to caller as appropriate with respect to employee total compensation (salary, vacation, sick leave, benefits, etc.) to ensure accurate application of policies and collective agreements.  

 

7.    Based on data reports, proactively contacts people managers that may be experiencing difficulty within the Time Management area to avoid potential pay affecting errors.

 

8.    Identifies and escalates issues and opportunities leading to improvements in the overall service provided to prevent employee complaints, supervisor concerns, and union issues.  Assists colleagues by handling irate callers instead of transferring to supervisor when customer can be satisfied by such action.  Escalates irate callers to supervisor when required. Informs supervisor of any backlog, missed deadlines, etc.  Recommends solutions and/or improvements to processes.  Provides information for inclusion in management/audit reports, as required and provides training support.

 

9.    Is competent, informed and knowledgeable on CPC computer systems and reporting methodologies by using complex computer system applications.  Ability to operate on-line computer and telecommunications equipment.
