The role:

The Role

  • Produce decks and reports for Technology Risk reporting forums and IT&S Senior Management holding responsibility for accurate and data supported insights.
  • Perform Risk analysis and identify correlations between Technology Risk domains and data to develop predictive meaningful insights.
  • Revamp and enhance Technology Issues monitoring and reporting; develop data driven insights from identified issues. This includes Self-Identified, Internal Audit and Regulatory issues.
  • Research Industry Frameworks and Practices and identify new metrics and indicators to measure and report on Technology Risk.

Purpose

  • The QTS development team builds, modifies, and supports trading systems for Capital Markets in equities.
  • We are seeking a talented software developer (C++, Java, Python, and SQL) to work with the ETF desk to develop, support and enhance their algorithmic trading software and related tools.
  • We are dedicated to leveraging data-driven insights and advanced algorithmic trading strategies and service clients in the global financial markets. You will play a pivotal role in developing, optimizing, and maintaining our trading related algorithms and vendor system(s). You will work closely with a talented team of analysts, traders, and developers to build and maintain the software. You will also be required to provide first-level support to the internal users of the systems you work on.
  • We will consider a range of experience levels and adjust role, compensation, and title accordingly. Prior financial experience would be an asset but is not required. This is primarily a developer role, with some exposure to analysis and trading activities. The successful candidate is someone enthusiastic about building software in a financial environment, has excellent communication skills, and can take responsibility for multiple parts of the software development lifecycle.

 

Accountabilities

  • Modifying, enhancing, and testing an algorithmic trading platform and related tools.
  • Perform support of production trading systems to troubleshoot and quickly resolve any issues or questions throughout trading hours, and at system initialization in the morning.
  • Analyze system performance and trading results to find ways to improve efficiency and client executions.
  • Work with front office users to implement their trading strategies and supporting data inputs.
  • Analyze system architecture to improve scalability, and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and risk management protocols.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to advise on potential innovations to our system.


Functional Competencies

  • Strong software development skills from design to implementation to testing. The ability to work in a large existing codebase to building small supporting tools/scripts from scratch.
  • Experience in developing real-time event-driven applications
  • Ability to problem solve in real-time with live systems
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for resolving issues
  • Strong competence with object-oriented languages such as C++ and Java. Must have C++ experience
  • Experience with tooling and scripting with python/shell scripting
  • Comfortable with SQL and relational database concepts
  • LUA scripting is an asset.
  • Background or personal interest/experience related to trading systems, index arbitrage, ETFs, market-making and similar areas preferred but not required.
  • Experience with real-time trading systems (Fidessa, Portware, Flextrade, Tbricks, etc..) an asset

As an Associate Financial Consultant, Acquisition you will

  • Generate outbound leads and manage inbound referrals, converting both into sales opportunities.
  • Apply a growth mindset to assess and analyze all prospect opportunities and create financial plans, leveraging other areas of the business as needed, to provide the appropriate level of service to clients based on their personal preferences and/or financial/investment circumstances.
  • Develop and lead marketing initiatives and deliver a high touch, top-quality client experience consistent with MD values and brand.
  • Participate in/lead client seminars, partner events, conferences, information sessions and other activities relative to the medical community to promote MD products/programs and increase awareness of legislative changes.

  • Track pipeline reporting to ensure effective sales management and prepare and execute quarterly business plans to meet target objectives.

1.Lead Portfolio Management and Risk Mitigation by:

  • Providing relationship banking and the highest quality of administrative support to a portfolio of complex, high net worth clients

  • Developing and executing new business strategies to attract and retain high net worth clients. Develop client management plans and make referrals that result in deeper client relationships.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of client needs and proactively make referrals to: Private Investment, Counsel, Scotiatrust, ScotiaMcLeod, Hollis Wealth, Commercial and Retail Bank.
  • Identifying prospects and referrals from internal and external networks/ COI's
  • Maintaining a strong prospect sales pipeline, conducting sales calls and qualification of opportunities based on effective due diligence.
  • Engaging and informing client management partners as to changes in client information and priorities.

 

3.Maintain Operational Effectiveness by:

 

  • Ensuring daily and periodic management controls are in place and effective
  • Monitoring non-interest expenses against planned budgets, ensuring that the Manager, Client Services has appropriate and reasonable explanations for variances
  • Providing direction, guidance and support to the Manager, Client Services as required, through coaching and periodic participation in Service Meetings and Skill Buildings sessions
  • Reviewing and resolving client concerns and issues and ensure that the Bank's Customer Complaint Resolution Process is in place and effective.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to Bank security procedures, including assigned authorities and limits
