Job Summary: As a member of the BGIS SCS Team, you will be generally responsible for cleaning in a designated zone with an emphasis on quality control, health and safety & striving to exceed client expectations. 

Key Responsibilities: Functioning as a core member of the operational team and reporting to the Manager/ Supervisor as a Cleaner you may be required to perform some of the following tasks as required by the Manager/Supervisor and needs of the client:

  • Clean floors by sweeping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
  • Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors. (The washing/scrubbing of floors is done with handheld or auto scrubbers. In large open applications, automatic equipment may be used to perform these functions) 
  • Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with power equipment when required 
  • Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors including washroom floors. (The washing/scrubbing of floors is done with handheld or walk behind buffing machines. In large open applications, automatic equipment may be used to perform these functions) 
  • Transport garbage from drop points to garbage bins or compactor 
  • Transport maintenance machinery, where necessary, between floors and job sites 
  • Cleans and stores equipment and machinery used
  • Cleans glass areas requiring ladders, scaffolding or other extension equipment to reach. 
  • Cleans washroom floors including stripping and finishing 
  • Cleans stairwells and elevator cabs where ladders are required 
  • Loads and unloads supplies and replenishes cleaning solutions
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Other duties that management may assign 
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
  • Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with power equipment when required 
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets 
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications

  • Remove snow and debris from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalized environment.
  • Experience in using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials and solutions.
  •  Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work including WHMIS.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy items as well as climb ladders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients and the general public.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays and shifts as assigned as well as work in multiple locations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain manual and electronic records.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Must meet security clearance requirements, where applicable
  • Must have a valid Class G license (may be required)

Qualifications

  • Completed Grade 10 and some related experience in a mechanical shop environment; equivalencies may be considered (completion of Grade 12 or equivalent considered an asset)
  • Committed to safety using occupational health and safety and environmental standards and procedures and knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in a mechanical environment using various cleaning agents and chemicals
  • Ability to work in an environment which may include heat, cold, wet, dust, noise, and diesel exhaust fumes
  • Previous related experience working in a mechanical/automotive shop environment is an asset
  • Ability to understand, communicate in, read and write English at a level needed to meet job related task and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated work ethic and a willingness/ability to learn on the job and update skills
  • Ability to accurately enter data and information into a computer (Google Docs, Microsoft Word, AssetWorks M5 experience is an asset)
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position and related shift work

Responsibilities:

    • The candidates should be able to sweep, mop, wash and polish floors, dust furniture, vacuum carpeting, area rugs, draperies and upholstered furniture, make beds and change sheets
  • The candidates should be able to distribute clean towels and toiletries, stock linen closet, clean, disinfect and polish kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances, disinfect operating rooms and other areas
  • The candidates should be able to clean and disinfect elevators, handle and report lost and found items, attend to guests’ requests for extra supplies or other items
  • The candidates should be able to provide basic information on facilities, pick up debris and empty trash containers, wash windows, walls and ceilings
  • The candidates should be able to clean changing rooms and showers, address customers’ complaints or concerns

Your Contribution

As a Receptionist, you will work in collaboration with the Administrative Team.

 

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Answer and direct phone calls and inquiries;
  • Process lab samples;
  • Open lab numbers;
  • Distribute mail;
  • Purolator / courier shipments;
  • Ordering office supplies;
  • Manage office supply inventory;
  • Take payments from external clients;
  • Direct and problem solve inquiries from staff;
  • Booking travel – backup for region;
  • Building support – maintenance, kitchen clean up/organization and maintaining vendor lists;
  • Maintaining internal spreadsheets including – staff lists, cell phone lists etc.;
  • Paper filing maintenance as needed;
  • Scan documents for electronic filing;
  • Maintain external Iron Mountain filing system;
  • Printing/Binding as required; and
  • Additional task as required that may not be mentioned here on an as-needed basis.


Your Profile

  • Diploma in Office Administration considered is an asset;
  • Bilingual capabilities considered an asset;
  • Driver’s license required to do local office errands as required;
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience in an front desk role in an office environment required;
  • Experience working in a similar capacity in a Consulting, Engineering, or Science firm would be an asset;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office program features specifically, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Positive demeanour with interest supporting individuals and teams;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Excellent organizational capabilities with the ability to implement and maintain systems of organization;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize; multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment; and
