JOB SUMMARY

Traffic Signal Installation & Field Programs is responsible for Traffic Signal assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, Traffic Control Room management of data and video equipment and data communications, Signal Timing engineering, Camera assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, and Re-lamping management.

You work with a team of traffic signal specialists to assist in the assembly, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices to support the city’s goal of maintaining and expanding the traffic system network to meet the needs of the traveling public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 

At least 6 months of post-secondary training obtained from a community college in basic electrical theory, basic construction theory or related field is desirable

Minimum of 1 year of related experience in the electrical, construction and maintenance activities of both the public and private sectors; such sectors may include Traffic Light and Street Lighting construction and maintenance, Hydro Utilities, or factory plant maintenance

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer. 
Work Zone Safety training certificate
Electrical and Utilities Safety Rules training certificate
Forklift Operator Licence
Hoisting and Rigging training certificate
Mobile Crane Operator 0-8 ton (P930030) training certificate

KNOWLEDGE

  • Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as it relates to traffic control, electrical hazards and any other relevant sections.
  • Ontario Regulation 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards.
  • Ontario Traffic Manual
  • Ontario Traffic Act
  • Provincial Workplace Violence and Harassment Legislation 
  • City policies and procedures as they relate to Occupational Health and Safety, WHIMIS, and work-area protection
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Ability to pull cable through ducts in all weather conditions, without physical limitations
  • Ability to lift items of 75 lbs weight and heavier when the load is shared between two persons
  • Ability to work at height, either on ladders or in an aerial bucket
  • Ability to kneel and crouch when performing tasks
  • Ability to work in manholes and small spaces
  • Ability to work on-call on a rotating basis, and overtime as needed
  • Ability to respond to call out and arrive on site with 45 minutes
  • Available to work extended hours
  • Available to be ‘on-call’ on a back-up basis outside of normal working hours including on weekends and statutory holidays

The mandate of Facility Operations is to operate and maintain all City facilities and City-managed buildings, which represents approximately 900 buildings and includes police, fire, libraries, child care, paramedic posts, recreation, culture, public works, City Hall and other administrative buildings, long-term care facilities, and facility outdoor property. The Facility Operations units deliver facility management and maintenance services within assigned geographic and/or specialty areas.

You are responsible for performing duties associated with the operation and maintenance of all City facilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10

Up to one month of related experience

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are assets

You are responsible for maintaining, trouble shooting, repairing, monitoring, controlling, designing and inspecting all mechanical and ancillary systems associated with City facilities. You are also responsible for the design, construction and installations of new and updated HVAC and Building Automation systems in the facilities including installation and maintenance of Refrigeration, Natural Gas and Propane fired equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12

Journeyman’s Refrigeration & Air Conditioning License and Certification achieved through 9000 apprenticeship hours  

Journeyman’s License in Gas #1 achieved through 6000 apprenticeship hours 

Minimum of five (5) years of related experience within outlined trade following the attainment of the Journeyman’s Certificates

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic 313A
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer. 
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Current Arc Flash Hazard training (CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety Standard)
TSSA Welder/Brazer certificate to City Procedures within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification in other related Trade(s) is an asset
Current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card
TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate (natural gas, propane and/or alternate fuel)
TSSA Gas Fitter (G1) certificate

KNOWLEDGE

  • Service, maintenance and operations of gas combustion systems
  • Service, maintenance and operation of plumbing, electronic and pneumatic controls
  • BAS training including BACNet
  • Relevant guidelines, policies, regulations and legislation
  • Preventative maintenance procedures
  • Purchasing Bylaws and tendering and contract processes
  • Safe handling of chemicals, lubricants and other service related material

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability in service, maintenance and operations of fuel-fired systems
  • Mechanical and Electrical troubleshooting expertise
  • Safety conscious, working on fuel fired equipment
  • Be able to assist in the review of contracts for compliance with legislative and corporate requirements
  • Be able to assist in the review of drawings and specifications for new construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, other employees and public
  • Read building drawings (mechanical, electrical and architectural)
  • Interpret job and/or manufacturer specifications

  • Silos welding/brazing
  • Ability to program, troubleshoot and maintain various BASs
  • Be able to proper setup of emissions on all fuel fired equipment (MOE)
  • Be able to work with MMS to create and update PM routines
  • Supervise contractors and participants in projects
  • Display initiative and innovation in problem solving
  • Effective interpersonal and Communication Skills
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Dependable and demonstrates initiative

  • Ability to work in extreme industrial conditions as workers are exposed to hot & cold workplace temperatures, noise, odours, potentially toxic and explosive atmospheres

  • Must be prepared to occasionally work irregular hours as required
  • Conduct repairs from elevated platforms and/or confined spaces
  • Work in areas with corrosive chemicals
