PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

You will assist with the planning, scheduling and assignment of manpower to specific jobs within the Freight Car Repair and Freight Car Inspection, ensuring that all repairs and/or servicing are performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with Company, AAR and TC regulations.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Conduct job briefings, end of shift briefings, safety meetings and activities, ensuring that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to thorough proficiency testing and safety tracking document
• Correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigates for corrective actions to the various departments, involving the Health and Safety Committee in the prescribed timelines
• Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators.  Leads to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for
• Communicate and interact regularly with management within field operations to ensure Freight Car repair and train servicing is meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
• Ensure that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and is responsible for ordering within prescribed limits through the SAP system.  Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives
• Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with local union officials. Ensures the collective agreement is understood and managed as it is written
• Support and participate in Consequence Leadership, provide employees both Positive and Constructive Feedback throughout shift
• Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation.  Support Lean Philosophy and Principals
• Ensure Freight Car bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity and key metrics are met.  Coordinate with Field Operations to ensure over the road set-offs of bad order Freight Cars are repaired in a timely manner
• Ensure repairs and train servicing are in compliance with AAR, TC standards and Canadian Pacific policies
• Support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan
• Communicate and interact regularly with local/external counterparts
• Work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams and provides guidance and support to employees to bring about the vision of an empowered and engaged workforce

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a minimum of a High school diploma or mechanical trade certification
• Proficient knowledge of railway operations (road, yard, freight car, mechanical)
• Working knowledge of CPKC systems (CIM, TYES, Nexus, SAP and Wreck Estimator) is an asset
• Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel

Fastfrate Group is looking for an experienced Forklift Mechanic at our Woodbridge, Ontario, office. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience repairing and maintaining forklifts and other heavy equipment.

• Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
• Interpret manufacturer’s technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
• Troubleshoot forklift problems, including brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, and detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and malfunctions.

The Trailer Technician is responsible for preventative maintenance, pre-inspection maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on the company’s fleet of trailers in accordance with the applicable level of training and apprenticeship.

How You’ll Help: 

• Responsible for the maintenance and repair of trailers according to work orders and in keeping with level of training/apprenticeship (see below)
• Maintaining safe shop environment (may include snow removal from the roof, de-icing, washing vehicles, sweeping, etc.
• Pre-apprentice Trailer Technicians provide support to journeypersons and to apprentices under the leadership of a journeyperson in all aspects of the maintenance and repair of trailers, including but not limited to brakes, suspension systems, surelok, tires (including psi), trailer axles, lighting systems, rear walls and doors, frame and support, chassis, lighting, wiring, hydraulics, heating & refrigeration systems.
• Apprentice Trailer Technicians, under the leadership of a journeyperson, are involved in all aspects of the repair and maintenance of trailers (see above) and may provide general direction and guidance to Pre-Apprentice Technicians. Apprentice Technicians are expected to work more independently and exercise greater judgment through the various stages of the apprenticeship, obtaining final verification of work from a Journeyperson Technician.
• Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trailers (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians.
• Maintenance and repair of trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
• Documentation of all findings and work done.
• Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
• Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians
• Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair and maintain trailers.
• Maintain and repair trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hubcaps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
• Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.

Your Skills and Experience: 

• Post-secondary training in trailer repair and/or completion of trailer technician certificate course
• Preference given to applicants with Red Seal journeyperson certification
• Additional training in tire repairs and/or refrigeration will be considered an asset
• CVIP or ability to obtain CVIP is an asset
• Candidates enrolled in trailer repair apprenticeship may also be considered.
• Valid Class 1 license also considered an asset
• Previous work experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the transportation industry
• Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections are considered an asset in this position,
• Ability to obtain CVIP
• Physically fit and able to lift, move, reach, bend, walk, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch for extended period of time

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor supervises and coaches the Maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient execution of the maintenance work and optimal operational effectiveness in line with corporate and site objectives.

The Maintenance Supervisor is an experienced Maintenance leader with at least 5 years of experience in a Maintenance supervisory or leadership role applying proven Maintenance best practices in a fast pace industrial environment.  A technical diploma/ticket is required. The Supervisor is familiar with using a CMMS system and with applying Standard Operating Procedures in his/her work. The Supervisor follows company policies, standards and guidelines as they apply to all activities.

• Provide inputs into Preventive Maintenance (PM) reviews and PM development activities.
• Responsible for assigned activities related to the site's asset performance improvement objectives and guidelines.
• Oversee the internal equipment rebuilds and review external rebuilds.
• Provide input to the work prioritization process and manage emergency and break-in work.
• Provide inputs at the daily work request review meeting.

• Review completed WO's to ensure that the Trades people record actual time worked on the WO. Compare to time planned and addressed significant variances.
• Conduct a pre-check of tools, equipment, kitted and staged parts, and materials on all planned and scheduled jobs
• Ensure that parts and machine assemblies removed from service are promptly sent for repair/rebuild if required.
• Ensure constant use of housekeeping practices, satisfying all safety requirements, to clean up the work site as part of every job. Workplace safety assessments are used regularly.
• Schedule overtime or contract work as needed and manage contractors, while respecting budgetary limits.
• Verify/ensure accuracy and completeness of WO documentation before sending to Planner and list issues to address.
• Provide technical assistance in analyzing planned and completed WO to improve current and future job plans.
• Identify and address knowledge gaps from completed WOs,
• Responsible for the application of the site's documented Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) process and results for major sporadic and chronic failures.
• Review Trades skills annually and develop a training plan to resolve gaps.

• Cooperatively create equipment handover and release schedules with Operations including pre and post job communication.
