Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, this position performs preventative maintenance at various civic sites and delivers and installs recreational equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains and repairs recreational equipment and furnishings at various sites around the city.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles including a tractor with front-end loader, a forklift, snow-clearing equipment, and a tandem-axle truck.
  • Constructs, installs, replaces and repairs various types of fencing, concrete and masonry blocks, etc.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of buildings, structures, equipment, etc., in accordance with predetermined maintenance schedules.
  • Assists trades and other maintenance staff with a variety of maintenance and construction projects.
  • Transports the showmobile and community stage and oversees set-up at various sites around the city.

We are seeking a Permanent Full Time Mechanic to join our team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

 

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

  • This role will report to the Shop Manager and is responsible for maintaining Wright Constructions vehicles and equipment in safe working order.
  • The Mechanic will ensure that all equipment meet all government regulations and standards for safety, as well as company safety standards.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Order parts and shop supplies as required
  2. Communicate with the Shop Manager on required equipment and facility repairs
  3. Communicate estimated equipment repair completion dates
  4. Communicate with sublet repair shops on delivery and costs as required
  5. Log fuel deliveries to sites, submit fuel logs and bills to the office as required, and maintain inventory of repair parts
  6. Service and repair Wright Construction vehicles and equipment
  7. Assist Superintendents with repairs as required
  8. Housekeeping as required
  9. Wash and maintain coveralls
  10. Ensure prices for parts are competitive by benchmarking prices within the market
  11. Issue PO’s for repair parts and sublet work and submit PO’s to the office as required
  12. Attend toolbox meetings as scheduled
  13. Promote the Wright Construction culture, values, and safety program

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Journeyperson ticket or proof of enrollment in Apprenticeship, or proven experience being a mechanic
  • Valid SCOT or CSTS Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation required

  • Reviews and approves residential and non-complex commercial applications in accordance with applicable codes, bylaws, acts, and standards, and advises owners, designers and contractors of any application deficiencies.
  • Schedules, prioritizes, and inspects all buildings and other structures and installations during all phases of construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable codes, bylaws, acts, and standards.
  • Maintains records and issues reports of inspections, including action taken and recommendations; conducts subsequent inspections to determine if infractions have been rectified.
  • Circulates plans for review and approval by all divisions and other civic departments and subsequently reviews approved plans for completeness; prepares plans for permit issuance; notifies the applicant that the permit is ready and issues the building permit.
  • Provides brochures and technical assistance related to the National Building Code, the Swimming Pool Bylaw, The Construction Codes Act and regulations under the Act.
  • Assists in the preparation, issuance, maintenance and closure of correction notices, stop work orders, and orders to remedy contravention.
  • Monitors assigned areas to ensure that building permits are obtained for construction activity.
  • Reviews older permits and files for closure and takes enforcement action as necessary to obtain compliance.
  • Performs special inspections related to complaints, fire damaged buildings, building relocations, as well as pre-approval inspections for such things as fireplaces, personal care homes and day care centres.
  • Assists with the development Departmental operational procedures based on the building plan review and inspection program, Bylaws, Codes and Act.
  • Assist with training of staff as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Grade 12 education;
  • Graduation from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary architectural, mechanical, civil or other related engineering technology program, plus five years’ progressive related building construction experience;
    OR Possession of a Saskatchewan Journeyman Carpenter Certificate, including completion of a recognized apprenticeship program plus five years' progressive related journeyman trade experience.
  • Possession of a valid Level 2 Saskatchewan Building Official Licence.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License, and a vehicle suitable for use in the performance of duties; AND
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Certification (Truck and Transport, Heavy Duty, Automotive) is required.
  • Possession of a valid Red Seal Journeyperson license in a relevant trade
  • Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) designation.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance operations, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in public transit or large fleet environments is an asset.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Clean SGI Driver’s Abstract.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory abilities in a unionized environment.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Supervisor X, this position maintains and repairs a variety of vehicles and equipment. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews work orders, carries out repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspects vehicles and equipment, including road tests where necessary, and tests various systems and components to determine specific problems.
  • Adjusts, repairs and replaces parts and components of vehicles and equipment using hand tools and other specialized equipment.
  • Tests and adjusts repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications.
  • Performs a variety of preventative maintenance and safety inspections, such as SGI inspections, to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Diagnoses and repairs a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and associated components.
  • Performs minor fabrication and welding duties as required.
  • Completes required documentation such as inspection forms, service reports, etc.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.  Maintains and monitors programs which affect public and employee health and safety.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in Automotive, Truck and Transport, or Heavy Duty mechanics. Possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred.
  • Five years of Journeyperson experience with vehicles, large equipment and heavy-duty truck repairs.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of WHMIS training certificate, training provided upon hire.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and use of current test equipment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of electronic engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air/hydraulic brakes and other on-board vehicle systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, individually or as a team member.
  • Ability to comprehend technical service manuals and bulletins.
  • Ability to process and complete all required forms and reports.
