Group Summary:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish & maintain systems for managing P&F safety and environmental programs required by the Occupational Health & Safety act, Ministry of Environment and corporate standards, including:
• Identifies, Initiates, arranges and presents Employee safety & environmental training.
• Maintain certification to ISO-14001 and its successors in Canada.
• Review with Maintenance Manager annually safety/environment policies and procedures.
• Monitor operations, in close cooperation with the Maintenance/Facility Manager for compliance to all health, safety, environmental legislation, corporate requirements to satisfy requirements of ISO-14001 & Workwell requirements. Make recommendations to improve compliance to those standards.
• Review accident/incident investigation reports and ensure corrective action is completed (departments fill out actual accident reports).
• Coordinate activities (and effectiveness) of Health, Safety & Environmental committee.
• Coordinate activities (and effectiveness) of Ergonomic Committee.
• Identify and ensures communication on mandatory Personal Protection and regular review of requirements per area within P&F.
• Guides and provides active support in all HSE questions.
• Ensures P&F Tool & Die and P&F Systems are successfully passing all audits and meet all legal requirements including MAGNA.
• Developing HSE Standards that meets P&F requirements and legal requirements and finding best solution.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of Maple Leaf Food’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs.  This includes but is not limited to assisting in the development of safe work procedures, training, assisting in claims management, investigations, workplace inspections and training coordination.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

• Identification and reduction of Health and Safety risks and hazards
• Investigation into incidents and help to provide corrective actions with timelines
• Maintaining supply and inventory of health and safety equipment and supplies
• Maintain SDS (Safety Data Sheet) binder plant wide based on chemical inventory
• Maintain uniform inventory through third party
• Provide first aid as required and maintain the plant wide first aid kits with supplies
• Support the plant in the emergency evacuation procedure and maintain the log
• Maintain HSSE metrics and documentation with the ability to present this information to applicable parties
• Design and deliver training programs for workers, management and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements

• Maintain the HSSE Training Matrix, make recommendations on what training to complete and organize training with internal or external vendors for the applicable departments
• Assist the JHSC with scheduling meetings, ensuring workplace inspections are completed and take minutes for distribution
• Develop and construct Physical Demand Assessment (PDA), Machine specific lockout tagout procedure, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Safe Work Procedures (SWP) identifying the basic job steps and tasks, their associated hazards and risks, developing safe operating procedures and hazard controls
• On the floor involvement with operations on the production floor, completing daily walk throughs, inspections and H&S initiatives
• Support the Health & Safety department and any other duties as assigned by the department manager

Overview

This roles requires to be in office 3x /week. 

The role leads the planning, development, and communication of corporate programs and policies to drive the evolution of Rogers Safety Management System.  The role uses strong project management and written communication skills to deliver these programs.   

Responsibilities include:

• Lead Rogers policy and program development, including design, content, communication plans, resources and tools;
• Manage Rogers contractor safety management program; leading enhancements and new requirements across the organization;
• Lead Rogers audit program; planning, communication, implementation, and reporting;
• Effectively write communications, content for various platforms, data reports, and presentations with a focus on the audience, clear, concise, and quality messaging;
• In partnership with the Learning Team, design and develop new training courses, learning forums, and content.  Manage standardized training course offerings; 
• Ensure up-to-date knowledge and insight of regulatory requirements and ensuring programs meet those requirements;
• Effectively use information captured through data systems and to provide meaningful reports on performance and recommendations for improvement to operations;
