Engineer - Process Full-time Job

The Engineer - Process position will be responsible for determining the operations for fabrication and assembly of products by reviewing parts drawings, specifications, and other engineering data. Primarily accountable for planning, scheduling, conducting, or coordinating phases of major engineering projects in addition to developing sequence of operations, estimate time requirements for each, and prepare operation sheets.

Performance Expectations

 

  • Work with production planning to set shop priorities and ensure all necessary tools and documentation needed in the plant are available.
  • Attend Advance Quality Planning meetings to finalize design of required fixtures and tooling.
  • Interface with suppliers of raw material and tools to establish engineering requirements for start of production.
  • Investigate and find resolution of specific processing problems for assigned projects and parts.
  • Prepare quotations for new jobs, including material and processing costs, tooling, gauges and capital investment costs if required.
  • Participate in productivity improvement investigations.
  • Conduct time studies.
  • Maintain ongoing process control through quality troubleshooting and process improvement investigation.
  • Regular review of all processes and operator instructions for assigned customers to ensure accuracy and conformance to actual procedures.
  • Collect data and develop statistics to describe equipment and system functionality.
  • Estimate durations of development, fabrication, construction and repair tasks.
  • Define which materials and equipment to use for projects and select appropriate codes.
  • Complete work order and change work order forms to notify key parties about projects.
  • Assume project management roles to co-ordinate the involvement of other engineers, contractors, technicians and suppliers.

 

Credentials

  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge/work experience in machine processes, cutting tools, fixtures, CNC and Special purpose machines.
  • Working knowledge of ISO-TS16949 and ISO 14001, and with mechanical blueprint interpretation including GD and T.
  • Good computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining (i.e. AutoCAD, CAD/CAM and SolidWorks).

Job Details

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will provide support in resolving design related controls issues on current production design control systems and investigating a variety of new or tried and true technologies to create unique design solutions for existing or next generation Skyjack products.

This role is a 100% on-site located in Guelph, ON.

Performance Expectations

  • Prepare vehicle system controls concept and design drawings include machine harness drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams and system schematics.
  • Create supporting calculations ensuring that designs meet specification requirements including functional, safety, legal compliance, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Support cross-functional engineering teams to achieve project objectives and timelines.
  • Coordinate design reviews with the team to evaluate different design proposals.
  • Perform DFMEA on proposed solutions to identify potential failures early in the process and adjust planning accordingly
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any design- related issues throughout development cycle.
  • Prepare software requirement documents as required.
  • Contact and interact with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to investigate technologies and their applications.
  • Monitor the development of new technologies and upcoming suppliers.
  • Build relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to enable the development of new technologies.
  • Design and test prototypes: employ data collection, analysis techniques, and optimization to achieve target performance.
  • Provide support in checking details, assemblies, and BOMs for assigned projects.
  • Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or C.E.T. in an Electrical discipline. 
  • Currently registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or working towards achieving their designation.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Controls Engineer in a mobile/heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of custom microcontrollers, CAN bus communications, vehicle electrical connectors, solenoid valves and other mobile equipment electrical components is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general electrical skills.
  • Ability to interpret, modify and generate electrical schematics
  • Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred), experience with AutoCAD desirable.
  • Exceptional problem solving, critical thinking skills and must be capable of thinking outside of the box.
  • Exceptional research, hands on data collection, and data analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

The Automation Technician, Junior position is responsible for working with the manufacturing engineer, project engineers, and program managers, set up personnel and maintenance departments to reduce costs and remove non-value added material from productions lines.

Performance Expectations

 

  • Work with program managers and project engineers at the APQP stage of a program start-up.
  • Plan assigned work in an efficient method to minimize machine downtime while ensuring employee safety is maintained.
  • Troubleshoot process automation problems.
  • Perform regular housekeeping duties.
  • Work within QS9000 procedures and requirements.
  • Work with engineering following PPAP approval in resolving non-value added processes.
  • Work in design stage of processes both for start-up and current production projects.
  • Assign work tasks where applicable to co-worker(s).
  • Ensure work is performed in a manner that minimizes downtime.

Credentials

  • Completed three year program in Electrical or Mechanical Technology.
  • Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A).
  • Electronics Technician/Technologist Certificate, Electrician Qualification or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Qualification or Certificate in a related field or equivalent working experience.
  • Courses supplied by machine manufacturer.
  • Minimum five years experience in CNC and robotic repair/ programming.
  • Understanding of electrical / electronic schematic diagrams, blueprints and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to refer to quality specification forms to verify that products comply with required standards.
  • Ability to evaluate condition of new and damaged mechanical equipment and make recommendations for repair or replacement.
  • Ability to provide technical support and services to engineers.
  • Knowledge of advanced PLC programming including Allan Bradley, ControlLogix/RS Logix, Siemens S7, Fanuc.
  • Knowledge of robot systems (ABB, Motoman).
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking, Ethernet connections, TCP/IP protocol.
  • Experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining.
