Qualifications

The Shift Engineer has the direct accountability for ensuring the maintenance of facility boilers, refrigeration systems and HVAC units.  They will oversee the maintenance and operations of plants utilities under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and will provide 8 hour/day shift Engineer coverage for our food processing facility.  Working in a unionized environment, you will be responsible for operating freon refrigeration equipment, boilers, water tests, WWTP, and related auxiliaries while monitoring all water distribution, performing rounds and operating checks on equipment, responding to operations’ requests for services, and following up on alarm and taking action to rectify deficiencies.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Maintain/ Monitor/Test log all steam generating requirements by operation code

What You’ll Bring:

  • You have a 4th Class Stationary Engineer license or Refrigeration B and three to five years experience in a shift/operating role
  • Experience with freon refrigeration, would be an asset
  • Must be able to work 8 hours shifts, Monday-Friday days and overtime required
  • Preference will be given to applicants holding Refrigeration B Operator License

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Perform maintenance functions within the plant (refrigeration and auxiliary equipment, pumps, motors, high pressure steam boilers, air compressors, associated piping etc.;
  • Operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration plant (Glycol, chilled water, warehouse coolers);
  • Preventative Maintenance on related equipment;
  • Complete all required documentation (work orders, log books, etc.);
  • Comply with H&S, GMP, HACCP, and BRC practices;
  • Comply with TSSA requirements and Operating Engineers act;
  • Other maintenance/duties as required.

 

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

  • 4th Class Operating Engineer or Refrigeration Operator Class B License Required
  • Minimum 1 year of maintenance experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting;
  • High pressure boilers, ammonia refrigeration, and air handling systems experience is required
  • Extensive hands-on experience in manufacturing environment, installation, start-up, troubleshooting, service and field operations of various auxiliary equipment – ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, air compressors etc.;
  • Professional Certificate of Industrial Maintenance Mechanic or Electrician (eg. 442a/433a Certificate) preferred and considered an asset
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, equipment repairs, welding experience is an asset
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics experience is considered an asset
  • Current knowledge in PMP, SOP, HACCP and GMP procedures;
  • HVAC knowledge and experience;
  • Power control, electrical and mechanical skills;
  • Familiar with PLC, operation and troubleshooting;
  • Carries out equipment installations, modifications, and complete equipment changeover, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs, preventative/predictive Maintenance Plans as required.

Water Infrastructure Management (WIM) is responsible for the long-term management of Toronto's water, wastewater, and stormwater management assets to optimize infrastructure investment, level of service, and performance. WIM provides engineering analysis, asset management, infrastructure planning and policy development and coordination across Toronto Water to serve 3.6 million residents in Toronto and surrounding regions daily, manage over $83 billion in assets, and plan a 10-year capital budget of approximately $16.2 billion.

 

The successful candidate for this position will be a member of the Development & Growth Transformation Project Office (Project Office) in WIM. The Project Office leads, coordinates, monitors and tracks initiatives aimed at enhancing Toronto Water's involvement with development approvals.
