Overview

Planning, organizing and monitoring incoming and outgoing freight to ensure the most timely and efficient utilization of dock space, equipment and movement of freight. 

How You’ll Help

• Review routing matrix and manifests in order to:
  • Plan for trailers to be stripped and for LTL and TL loads.
  • Assign trailer to dock door for greatest efficiency.
  • Monitor the availability of trailers (single and LCVs) to make the greatest use of all resources.
  • Ensure all trailer and route planning is in accordance with transportation laws and company policies regarding weight and weight distribution, cubing, transportation of dangerous goods, etc.
• Monitor and review close times and productivity, noting trends to support improvement initiatives.
• Make suggestions for improvement in planning and dock processes for increased efficiency.
• Other related duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

• Minimum of secondary education, with preference for post-secondary education in Supply Chain or Logistics Management.
• A suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered. 
• Minimum of two years’ experience in dock operations, preferably in the transportation industry.
• Other experience in the transportation may also be considered and in addition to dock experience would be an asset.
• Strong communication skills in both English and French.
• Advanced computer skills with strong Excel capability as well as experience with other MS Office products and web based programs.  Previous experience with AS-400 is an asset.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.

This position maintains a diverse range of equipment including delivery vehicles, heavy duty machinery, on road tractors, and trailers from a variety of manufacturers. This position troubleshoots and maintains/repairs various systems including hydraulic brakes, air brakes, electronics, and engines. This position performs other tasks as requested.

Responsibilities:

• Repairs all UPS package cars and equipment.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Mechanic is responsible for the operations of this position, maintaining machinery, equipment and vehicles functional. His role is to perform the installation, maintenance and repairs, both electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic, of the equipment and vehicles used at work. Do what is necessary to keep the garage clean and tidy at all times. The Mechanic performs all of the following functions;

• Ensures the optimal operational maintenance of all equipment and vehicles;
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment according to established schedule. Performs various troubleshooting, repair and manufacturing tasks on equipment;
• Participates in equipment adjustments. Performs repairs written on work sheets left by drivers;
• Works from maintenance or manufacturing schedules, detailed drawings, sketches, specifications, manuals, or verbal and written instructions;
• Mechanically assembles machinery. Recommends possible modifications to equipment;
• Perform periodic maintenance operations such as oil changes, lubrication, brakes, tire rotations, etc.
• Organize your work according to requests and the availability of equipment to be repaired
• See to ordering the parts required for manufacturing and repairs as needed;
• Be aware of and work in accordance with current safety standards and regulations;
• May be called upon to train and provide coaching when required;

SKILLS

Education and experience:

• DEP in heavy vehicle mechanics or other relevant training and experience;

Qualifications

• Must posses valid Driver’s licence with clean abstract
• Must posses an Interprovincial Journeyman Millwright license or Red Seal
• Must posses a Tag1 Gas license, Halocarbure Gas license and Refrigeration license CCQ.

The Maintenance Technician III supports the FedEx industrial maintenance of material handling to complete preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Under minimal supervision, provides preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of material handling systems through demonstrated proficiency in mechanical power transmission and electrical with working knowledge of PLC/controls and welding/fabrication
• Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings and required trainings and addressing all safety concerns

Mechanical

• Understand power transmission concepts, such as gear ratios, service factor, horsepower and frame size to repair/replace a failed gearbox and/or motor when the correct replacement parts are not available
• Understand mechanical design concepts to be able to replace failed pulleys and bearings with replacements that don’t match design without impacting performance of a conveyor (speed, torque, etc.)
• Can read, interpret and create or modify mechanical drawings

Electrical

• Use a digital multimeter to resistance test de-energized circuits.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose both the power and the control branch of motor controls circuits.
• Read, interpret and create or modify electrical drawings/schematics

PLC/Controls

• Go online with PLC processors to aid in troubleshooting
• Burn EEPROMs
• Understand PLC networks, such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.

Welding or Fabrication

• MIG, stick and TIG weld in all positions.
• Understand difference between structural and non-structural welds and when to apply them
• Repair broken components where factors such as position or load may impact the repair, such as motor mounting plates or conveyor legs.
• Use vertical mill/drill and other machining tools

MINIMUM EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, electrical or mechanical trade or related area and an associate degree in a related area preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

• Four (4) years experience in Industrial Maintenance with proficiency in knowledge and demonstrated skills in mechanical power transmission, electrical and working knowledge of PLC/Controls and welding/fabrication skills through job experience, related military experience and/or related education required.
• Multiple certificates and degrees may be assessed by manager and HR to determine relevancy to minimum qualifications and experience
