Primary Accountabilities

 

Under the general supervision of the Fleet Service Coordinator, the Mechanic II diagnoses equipment failure, repairs, rebuilds and adjusts a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment used to perform road maintenance activities for both summer and winter operations. You will use specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work, assist with field repairs as required, and other related duties as required to complete equipment repairs, modifications and/or preventative maintenance.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

You have completed high school and have a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade plus five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.

Upon hire, applicants will be required to successfully complete Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training as part of their probationary requirements.

A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes and acceptable driving record is required.

A Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment and Air Conditioning Certification are desirable. Knowledge of computer controlled diagnostic technology and computer competency are considered assets. Successful completion of training and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, First Aid and WHMIS are further assets to be considered.

You consistently demonstrate initiative in your role; remaining up to date in changes to equipment, methods and technology within the mechanical field. Your exceptional communication skills will assist you when working with staff to help diagnose and resolve equipment issues. You are a self-motivated individual who works both independently with minimal supervision and participates fully as an effective team player. You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for clients.

Cenovus’s Atlantic Regions SeaRose Maintenance Team is seeking two Electrical Technicians that will be responsible for maintaining equipment to ensure safe, efficient operations. Working on a 21-day rotation, the Technicians perform preventative maintenance, diagnoses system issues, and implements corrective actions to minimize downtime and maximize production.

 

These positions will be based offshore on the SeaRose, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This is a full-time, permanent position working offshore 12-hours per day on a 3 weeks on/ 3 weeks off rotation.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain equipment safely and effectively, following Cenovus policies, applicable industry standards, and offshore industry standards.

  • Execute daily tasks in line with the SeaRose 21-day plan, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and corrective actions to reduce downtime and boost production.

  • Proactively identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment and plant performance.

  • Record and report maintenance history, flagging any concerns and helping manage spare parts, modifications, and inventory levels.

  • Support and guide contract electrical personnel; lead toolbox talks and assist with risk assessments to promote safe, efficient work.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with safe work systems and maintenance procedures.

  • Take part in emergency response teams, including helicopter operations and firefighting, and complete all required safety training.

 

Who you are:

Our ideal candidates will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or Certification as an Industrial Journeyman Electrician (Inter-provincial status if applicable).

  • Relevant industry experience, preferably on FPSOs or in the upstream oil and gas sector; experience with planned maintenance systems is an asset.

  • Completion of required training in accordance with CAPP standards, regulatory requirements, and the Cenovus Training Matrix.

Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems
  • Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems
  • Repair or replace mechanical units or components
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service
  • Test and adjust units to specifications
  • Advise customers on work performed and future repair requirements
  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed
  • Coach and instruct apprentices
  • Provide customer service
