POSITION SUMMARY

Operates heat treatment and pest control equipment in the provision of effective treatment of bed bug and other pest infested areas on Commission-owned properties, including those operated by non-profit housing providers.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

1. Performs pest control heat treatment duties:

• Follows safe work procedures at all times;
• Ensures area or unit to be treated is prepared as per heat treatment preparation requirements and addresses any deficiencies prior to starting treatment (combustibles/garbage removed, clothing, furniture and other belongings moved to allow for proper operation of equipment, remove all perishable foods and unplug electronics, cover sprinkler heads and heat detectors, seal areas of potential heat loss, secure loose papers or other items that could be blown by high velocity fans);
• Set up heaters, fans, extension cords, main generator cable and remote temperature sensors;
• Operate and monitor the equipment including both physically observing heat treatment equipment in heated suite (up to 57°C or 135°F) and remotely monitoring at a laptop computer;
• Turn on and off diesel generator;
• Enter suite throughout treatment day to move furniture, beds, box springs, clothing, drawers, heaters and fans as required for effective treatment;
• Replaces tenant furniture to original location when treatment is completed;
• Records data on a laptop and on paper forms;
• May explain pre- and post-treatment instructions to tenants and deliver notices;

Reporting to the Director, Lending Services, the Lending Services Lead provides leadership in designing and developing financial and development risk analysis in the areas of financial modelling and analysis, development feasibility, capital sourcing, and business case and legal support for housing development and re-development projects. He/she/they provides direction in the review of mortgage documentation for Development and Asset Strategies, Building Envelope Repair projects, and Provincial Infrastructure Grant Projects. The role leads the negotiations with partners, housing providers, municipalities, developers, and others to ensure projects are structured properly and are financially viable with appropriate capital structure and sourcing. He/she/they works closely with the Mortgage Administration and Development and Asset Strategies staff regarding the provision of construction lending, mortgage financing and legal administration services, and monitors any changes to the risk profile throughout the life cycle of the project and recommends strategies to reduce risk as required. Main Purpose & Function
Engineering Services contributes to the overall City purpose by providing many services and public works facilities. These ranges from such fundamental services as water supply, sewerage, drainage, refuse removal, street access, and lighting, to regulatory functions such as traffic control, parking enforcement, transportation planning, and preservation of utility and communication corridors.
 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Street Cleaning Operations in the Sanitation Services Branch keeps our City streets, laneways and parks clean. The Operations Worker II drives City vehicles and performs manual labour in the collection of litter, debris and abandoned waste.
Successful applicants' availability must meet Branch expectations in order to continue employment with the Branch. Functional and/or physical assessments related to the bona fide position requirements may be required.

This position is for Afternoon Shift only. Afternoon Shift works four afternoons per week, including weekends. Afternoon Shift operates on a compressed work week that includes a 10-hour shift (10:00am – 8:30pm) scheduled over a 7-day work week. The successful candidates may be required to adjust shifts (Day, Afternoon or Night) as operationally required and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The following shifts are currently available and others may be offered according to operational needs:

• Thursday through Sunday, 10:00am-8:30pm

Specific Duties

• Perform manual cleaning with a rake, shovel and leaf blower on assigned maps/beats.

• Special events preparation and clean up across the city as assigned.
• Drivers will dump waste material at the Vancouver Transfer Station or designated compactors or dump zones as needed/directed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Up to completion of high school.
• Labouring and semi-skilled experience with small hand tools.
• Driving experience and knowledge of the City of Vancouver roadways.
• Experience operating small pick-up trucks, mid to large size trucks, sweepers, flushers, garbage trucks and/or experience operating a Class 3 vehicle or higher preferred.
