Job Description:

Reporting to Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician’s responsibilities will include:

Orders and tracks parts and deliveries for all the Capexes and equipment we have

Runs PM system ready for customer or ISO audits

Runs Maintenance software  

Takes repair calls from office or other service calls, like broken door, cracked concrete patch etc. 

Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine breakdown issues and/or to order necessary parts.

Conduct and perform planned preventive & predictive maintenance and keep maintenance records.

Minimize production downtime by responding to production calls promptly.

Participate in spare parts control system and follow all department rules and regulations.

Support to dismantle and assemble equipment, tools and machines for repair.

Comply with all regulations relating to equipment for a manufacturing facility.

Record keeping of all maintenance of all activities on a daily basis.

Respond to shop floor requests for problem solving assistance.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

You will assist with the planning, scheduling and assignment of manpower to specific jobs within the Freight Car Repair and Freight Car Inspection, ensuring that all repairs and/or servicing are performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with Company, AAR and TC regulations.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Conduct job briefings, end of shift briefings, safety meetings and activities, ensuring that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to thorough proficiency testing and safety tracking document
• Correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigates for corrective actions to the various departments, involving the Health and Safety Committee in the prescribed timelines
• Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators.  Leads to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for
• Communicate and interact regularly with management within field operations to ensure Freight Car repair and train servicing is meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
• Ensure that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and is responsible for ordering within prescribed limits through the SAP system.  Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives
• Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with local union officials. Ensures the collective agreement is understood and managed as it is written
• Support and participate in Consequence Leadership, provide employees both Positive and Constructive Feedback throughout shift
• Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation.  Support Lean Philosophy and Principals
• Ensure Freight Car bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity and key metrics are met.  Coordinate with Field Operations to ensure over the road set-offs of bad order Freight Cars are repaired in a timely manner
• Ensure repairs and train servicing are in compliance with AAR, TC standards and Canadian Pacific policies
• Support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan
• Communicate and interact regularly with local/external counterparts
• Work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams and provides guidance and support to employees to bring about the vision of an empowered and engaged workforce

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a minimum of a High school diploma or mechanical trade certification
• Proficient knowledge of railway operations (road, yard, freight car, mechanical)
• Working knowledge of CPKC systems (CIM, TYES, Nexus, SAP and Wreck Estimator) is an asset
• Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel
• Knowledge of collective agreement/non- union policies

• Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
• Interpret manufacturer’s technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.

Overview

The Maintenance Engineer role is based in Picton, ON and reports directly to the Maintenance

Manager. The Maintenance Engineer will work closely with other Maintenance Supervisors,

Maintenance Planners and a Reliability Engineer among others.

What you’ll get to do

• Ensuring continuous improvement of equipment OEE (% reliability and % rate performance) by means of (a) root-cause failure analyses of significant or chronic equipment failures and (b) development and use of reliability action plans based upon RCFAs and downtime analysis techniques.
• Ensuring the inspection program (knowledge of equipment condition) is being executed using proper techniques. Inspections in person.
• Participating in the capital improvement and replacement annual budget for the entire plant to meet goals and objectives for asset management. Reviewing and assisting in the engineering and installation of capital projects.
• Developing and refining the PM/PDM maintenance program. Coordinating all efforts with equipment custodians and maintenance management to ensure the program is properly approved and endorsed by both departments.
• Coordinating with planners and schedulers to ensure that correct PM/PDM inspections are scheduled and performed when due.
• Managing, controlling, and analyzing all data, records, and equipment histories to continually review and refine inspection frequencies.
• Developing solutions to repetitive equipment failures and process losses, implementing ways of reducing the need for maintenance, and ultimately eliminating the occurrences of failures.
• Establishing and managing lubrication program and oil analysis, ensuring all equipment is properly lubricated and oil analysis is performed on all critical equipment.
• Participating in approval of all new installations and major repairs, including those done by contractors, to ensure their maintainability and reliability.
• Complete all assigned work in compliance with federal, provincial and local regulatory requirements.
• Complete responsibilities while strictly adhering to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring their compliance by others through actions, deeds, communications and any other means appropriate to maintain the safety and health of all employees.
• Supporting plant environmental programs and requirements with engineering solutions and day-to-day maintenance activities.
• Participation in on-call rotation within the maintenance department
• Engaging hourly as well as salary co-workers in effort to build a sustainable core of practices, procedures and talent for the Picton Maintenance department
