Our Bus Fleet Maintenance team is seeking a Serviceperson II on contract for up to 12 months to service buses under the supervision of the Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance. 

What will I be doing?

• Servicing, fuelling, parking and Bus cleaning as it relates to the fuel and mop lines.
• Performing change-offs as required
• Services the bus fleet by fuelling, sweeping, driving, and checking buses, circle check inspections, and performing minor repairs.
• Performs interior, exterior and maintenance cleaning duties on the bus, and support fleets.
• Completes on-the-road change-offs and road calls.
• Performs spills containment and clean up.
• Performs emission tests.
• Performs wheel-nut torques.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• Knowledge of motor vehicle repairs normally attained through completion of a high school program with an emphasis on motor vehicle repairs. 
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in servicing buses or heavy equipment, as well as, assisting with repairs in bus or heavy vehicle maintenance environment.
• Must successfully complete mandatory environmental, safety and all other training required by corporate policy including new courses that are or could be adjusted with these policies
• Knowledge of vehicle repairs and evolving technologies including new Electric Vehicles (EV) would be considered an asset. 
• Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 months) will be required of the successful candidate(s).
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Class “C” driver’s licence and “Z” endorsement. 
• Must be able to obtain GO Transit Forklift driving certificate.   
• Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy. 
• Ability to obtain job related certifications as required. 

Available Shifts/Locations: 

12 month contract  - East Gwillimbury Bus Garage  -  19:00-05:00 Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. OFF on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Note: This is a unionized position. As such, specific home bases, locations, shifts, shift hours and/or days off are assigned based on seniority and may be changed due to operational needs. They may include weekends, evenings, split shifts & holidays.

Overview

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor or Site Lead Hand, the Welder/Fitter ideally has 5-10 years of experience in a Fabrication or Machine Shop/Job shop environment. The Welder can perform custom welding/fabrication and has experience in machine repair/rebuild and custom fabrication.  

A technical diploma is preferred, while holding an Ontario Certificate of Qualification in Welding (456A). Preference will be given to candidates who also possess a Certificate of Qualification in Machinist (429A) and/or Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A).  The Welder/Fitter is familiar with welding using MIG/TIG/Stick operations and cutting tools like plasma and oxyacetylene. Job aid design/fabrication such as jigs, fixtures, gauges or familiarity with equipment like a waterjet, shear and brake press, working with Stainless Steel and Aluminum is a benefit.

The Welder/Fitter follows company policies, standards and guidelines as they apply to all activities including applying Standard Operating Procedures in his/her work.

The Welder/Fitter has strong leadership and communication skills, works well in a team environment, is responsible and is open to change. The person is results oriented and quality driven.

The Welder/Fitter promotes and maintains a safe working environment through compliance with Maple Leaf Food’s Health and Safety Program. This includes Food Safety and Environmental compliance.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

• Fabricates and makes repairs using a variety of standard shop tools to weld stainless steel (TIG/MIG/SMAW).
• Construction and manufacturing of metal work aids.
• Reads and interprets mechanical drawings, technical drawings and work-process documentation.
• Enhances equipment performance by recommending improvements and implementing designs.
• Operates production mechanical equipment such as Waterjet, Brake Press and Shear.
• Accounts for inventory usage and labour on shop work order system.
• Fulfills requirements of work order programs and requests assistance when needed.
• Directly helps the department and facility to meet targets and goals.
• Addresses issues with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
• Competent in work piece measurement using precision tools and equipment.
• Able to multitask while working under direction of the shop supervisor and shop lead hand.
• Assists in completed Work Order quality assurance reviews.
• Welding repairs and/or fabrication need to be carried out to Food Safety standards (sanitary welding).
• Communicates daily repair activity with Shop Manager or Site Lead Hand.  
• Fulfills all Health and Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, WHIMS and MSDS policy requirements.
• As part of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities apprenticeship program, trains and mentors apprentice employees(s) as required.
• Able to operate a forklift and overhead crane as required and maintain the required certifications.
• Demonstrated ability to wear proper PPE and comply with safety requirements.
• Able to lift up to 60 lbs while bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
• Prolonged standing.

Your Contribution

As a Shop Technician, you will work in collaboration with the Tanknology team

Your main responsibilities will be: 

• Low level office and shop area maintenance

• Equipment maintenance, testing, and repair

• Interaction with Measurement Canada officials

• Coordinate pickup and delivery. National travel by land vehicle, by air, by commercial ferrie

• Management and documentation of government certified devices

• Manufacturing shop aides and equipment as required. (shelving/storage units, fixtures, CP sticks, etc..)

• General housekeeping and organization

• Apply and promote Englobe’s health and safety rules

Your Profile

• Previous mechanical experience required
• Must have a valid (Canadian) driver’s licence.
• Welding experince an asset
• Knowing how to work safely with AC and DC electricity as well as general logic  level voltage practices would be an asset. (Multi-meter, power supply, o-scope)
