Shift Engineer Full-time Job

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be part of a team of shift engineers that provide 24/7 coverage for our food processing facilities. Working in a unionized environment, you will be responsible for operating ammonia and freon refrigeration equipment, boilers, water tests, WWTP, and related auxiliaries while monitoring all water distribution, performing rounds and operating checks on equipment, responding to operations' requests for services, and following up on alarms and taking action to rectify deficiencies.

What You’ll Bring:
- You have a 3rd Class Stationary Engineer license or refrigeration B and three to five years’ experience in a shift/operating engineer role.
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration, would be an asset.
- Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shifts with overtime as required.
- Preference will be given to applicants holding a 3rd Class Stationary Engineer.
- Wages $33.94 per hour, plus $0.75/hr premium

Lumber, steel, liquid, dry bulk and other commodities arrive at the facility by truck or rail. We are looking for a Heavy-Duty Forklift Operator to safely and efficiently transfer these commodities to truck, rail or container for furtherance. Responsibilities include:
- Operate forklifts to handle various weight capacities (up to 23,000lbs).
- Loading and unloading product from railcars and trucks.
- Support inventory control (inbound/outbound/on ground) and accurately document.
- Ability to prepare load plans for railcar, truck and/or container.
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
- Inspect and verify product condition to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
You Possess
- A minimum of 2 years relevant forklift and/or other transload equipment experience
- Knowledge and experience working in the lumber or transload industry is an asset
- Experience loading and unloading commodities from trucks or railcars is an asset
- A positive attitude
- A strong safety mindset
- Solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment

The City of Sarnia is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Technologist to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing infrastructure projects, contributing to the development and maintenance of municipal assets, and ensuring the sustainable growth of our community.
Under the guidance of our Manager, Design and Infrastructure, you will:
- Prepare detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, water distribution, stormwater management, and sanitary systems.
- Write specifications, prepare tender documents, cost estimates and project schedule for construction projects.
- Prepare; submit applications and obtain approvals for construction projects from MOECC and MTO and other agencies.
- Update GIS for the project information and create mapping as required.
- Preparation of proposals / scoping for procurement of consultant contractors and surveyors for miscellaneous studies /projects;
- Conduct site inspections and surveys to gather data and assess project requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within budget and on schedule.
- Review and analyze engineering plans, reports, and studies to provide recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations and standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other departments and the public as needed.
Position Requirements
- Three-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
- Four to six years of related work experience including:
- working with tender documents
- preparing cost estimates
- experience in obtaining project approval from the Ministry
- WaterCad or SewerCad model experience is an asset
- An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered
- Must have a valid Class G license with driver’s abstract acceptable to City standards.
This position may be required to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Civil 3D software
- Knowledge of infrastructure design (roads, water and sewer)
- Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis
