Job Details

The Technician, Structures is responsible for performing sheet metal activities on various aircraft and projects undertaken at the YEG facility.

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Heavy Maintenance West.

Level: As per the GAFAE Collective Agreement

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform sheet metal activities on various aircraft and projects undertaken at the YEG facility;
    Responsible for having their assignment approved by the applicable Supervisor or Manager for their work;
  • Assist activities carried out by the shop group;
  • Responsible to be familiar with all procedures necessary to follow for the maintenance or repairs to the aircraft and equipment;
  • Ensure all work carried out is properly documented in accordance with the procedures manual;
  • Comply with all safety regulations at all times;
  • Ensure that all items of work are listed recorded and signed out on the appropriate work cards;
  • Perform work procedures, while ensuring that approved methods and materials are used in a safe, efficient and economical manner;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
  • Capable of working in confined spaces;
  • Other duties as assigned.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineers diploma (persons actively working towards the diploma may be eligible) with preference given to B737/ATR 42 experienced persons.
  • Must be willing to travel;
  • Must hold valid driver’s license;
  • Must have excellent organizational skills,
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
  • Must possess superior interpersonal and communication skills for internal and external customers;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Welcome each guest to Canadian North when they arrive to the airport;
  • Greet and assist Inuktitut speaking passengers with their check-in processes;
  • Provide accurate Inuktitut translations services when working through issues so the customer can board in a timely manner;
  • Respond quickly and effectively to passenger travel inquiries and liaise with other Canadian North employees and contractors while responding to concerns;
  • Relay information and notes to the relevant team members to maintain accurate records;
  • Be present at the departure gates to provide Inuktitut language services to passengers, including Announcements where no Inuktitut speaking Customer Service Agent is available;
  • Welcome passengers as they arrive at the baggage area;
  • Assist passengers with mobility and or special needs and communicate these needs to the Customer Service Agent;
  • Assist the Training department as needed;
  • Provide various administrative support services;
  • Participate and assist in the coordination, planning and setup of internal and/or external events as required;
  • Represent Canadian North at events;
  • Participate in investigations and assessments related to safety occurrences where Inuktitut translation services are required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent related work experience;
  • The ability to speak fluently in Inuktitut is mandatory;
  • Two (2) years of previous experience;
  • Fully proficient computer skills (MSOffice) and superior operating knowledge of Skyline, Sabre (preferred):
  • Demonstrated operational experience, including airport operations, load control, SMS (AQD), etc;
  • Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service;
  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken);
  • Willingness and ability to travel;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
