Job Details

Reporting to the Senior Planning Officer, the Bus Service Design office is seeking one (1) Transportation Scheduler to review, plan, and schedule bus services for optimum and cost effective and utilization of drivers and bus equipment.
 

What will I be doing?
  • Monitor, evaluate and adjust the planned utilization of GO Transit resources in conjunction with approved service changes.
  • Develop Departure Lists and Platform Allocation for GO Bus and Third Party Carriers.
  • Develop Bus and Platform Signage.
  • Investigate, review and analyses bus stop ridership data including on-street bus stop accessibility reviews.
  • Review and initiate appropriate actions in response to passenger-related bus stop issues.
  • Research and recommend operational improvements.
  • Develop plans and the business cases for new or expanded bus stop amenities.
  • Review and process driver time-off requests.
  • Maintain various supporting databases associated with bus operations.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation scheduling normally attained through the completion of a two-year community college certificate in transportation planning, or any combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years of related experience reviewing, planning, and scheduling bus services for optimum and cost effective and utilization of drivers and bus equipment
  • Knowledge of the theory, practices and principles of transit operations and service delivery is essential.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work both independently and/or as a team member and provide team leadership when required.

Assets:

  • A valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license that meet corporate standard for a good driving record.
  • Experience with HASTUS scheduling software and ArcGIS mapping platform. 
  • Experience in a computerized transit planning environment with exposure to scheduling of driver/vehicle and use of scheduling software.
  • Experience with SQL will be considered an asset.

The Corporate Resilience - Dispatch office is seeking a Communications Operator. This role is responsible for receiving, monitoring, assessing, and managing incoming emergency calls, and for taking or directing the remedial actions required, in accordance with Service procedures. Provides dispatching and communications services to ensure coordination of effort among multiple internal and external stakeholder, including Special Constables, Station Services, Rail Operations, Bus Operations, NOC, local police, and third parties who operate on our rail and bus network to address responses to incidents and emergencies.
 
What will I be doing?
  • Daily operations of emergency communications under the Corporate Resilience department of the Customer Protection division, working as an integrated member of the Network Control Centre to address any actual or emerging passenger or transit network security risks, hazards.
  • Receives, monitors, and assesses and triages incoming emergency calls and responds to in inverse order or assessed risk by initiating remedial action
  • Manages calls that requires a combine presence of Customer Protection Special Constables, Police, ambulance, or emergency response resources for other divisions and services.
  • Supports the broader Network Operations Control (NOC) team in dealing with significant incidents and responses to unplanned emergencies by providing dispatching services and coordinating with Customer Protections Services and community emergency response partners
  • Monitors visual and audio communications including CCTV, phones, UHF radios, Personal alarm devices, Text for help platform and access control points. Responsible for taking appropriate response/action including relaying detailed and accurate information to members of Customer Protection and Revenue Protection in the field, Supervisor, Manager, and outside emergency service departments
  • Providing prompt assistance to ensure protection of Metrolinx customers and/or employees and their property, along with corporate assets, by relaying detailed information to supervisor, manager, security personnel, Customer Protective Services officers in the field and/or appropriate outside emergency service departments.
  • Providing the first line of communication between Customer Protective Services, and/or other Metrolinx Transit Communication Control Centers or departments or outside emergency service by using visual and audio communications including CCTV, phones, UHF radios.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Post Secondary college certificate in Emergency Telecommunications, or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.  Must be able to pass a background check including but not limited to criminal record and social media conducted by Cobourg Police as well as an RCMP fingerprint screening to access the C.P.IC. and P.A.R.I.S systems 
  • A minimum of twelve (12) months related dispatching / communications experience dealing directly with employees, the general public, and police, where timeliness of decisions are critical (e.g.in the police, emergency services or logistics field). 
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy. Must be able to pass a typing test. Must be able to pass the Criticall Public Safety Communicator test.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Must have a working knowledge of computers including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Must be proficient in the use of internet/intranet search techniques to access information. 
  • Judgement is required in providing effective dispatch services involving a variety of situations, which could potentially impact customer safety & security, customer relations and Metrolinx / GO Transit’s reputation, as well as impact the safety of employees and property.  Demonstrated proficiency using sound judgement skills to respond immediately and effectively to emergency/safety situations, service delays and other incidents/events where decisions and action must be taken promptly and decisively. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions while under pressure of stressful situation.
  • Ability to gather information while making judgement calls to relay information to the correct internal and external stakeholders (Customer Protective Services officers, police, ambulance, or emergency person for other Divisions and Services)

Other Requirements:

Shift work, weekend work and work on statutory holidays required.  Dispatch duties include extended sedentary periods of work.  Available Shifts: 80 hrs bi-weekly 24/7 & varying.

Our Bus Fleet Maintenance Office is seeking a Superintendent, Bus Garage Operations to oversee the daily delivery/administration of regional bus service that meets passenger needs; and to ensure bus services are delivered in a clean, safe, efficient, economical, courteous, and timely manner.
 

What will I be doing?

  • Reviews and investigates recommendations for service improvements.
  • Maintains and updates manuals and ensures alignment with corporate policies and objectives.
  • Oversees follow-up on all service irregularities and determines corrective action.
  • Reviews statistical reports that track absences, injuries, and accidents. 
  • Provides direction to internal Supervisors and office staff in the handling, and resolution of, operational and administrative matters.
  • Coordinates the team’s response to major service disruptions.
  • Liaises with local transit properties to discuss and resolve operational issues.
  • Oversees the investigation of customer complaints and follows-up.
  • Delivers effective customer service by monitoring the performance of employees.
  • Monitors the daily operation of all bus services through reports generated by a variety of media, and by direct observation of customer and traffic trends.
  • Provides input to the analysis of engineering, design, and construction of new or modified facilities, carpool lots, and bus loops and makes recommendations. 
  • Plans and schedules the Supervisory workforce.
  • Coordinates a number of complex projects to meet schedule and budget commitments.
  • Gathers data and develops draft for the operating budget.
  • Assesses current and future supervisory workforce.
  • Measures staff performance against established objectives.
  • Monitors the performance of vendors in their delivery of contracted services.
  • Participates in all disciplinary interviews with Supervisors.
  • Coordinates and leads meetings, establishes agenda, and accommodates team schedules.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and day-to-day direction.

 Location/Shift:

Streetsville Bus Garage : Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

 What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a diploma in Business Administration, Transportation Management, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent 
  • Demonstrated years of progressive experience leading delivery of public transportation services.
  • 310T Certification an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and other applicable legislation to manage bargaining and non-bargaining employees.
  • Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, related legislation, and licensing requirements would be assets.
  • Customer service orientation to meet and exceed the needs of internal and external stakeholders and the public.
  • Vendor management experience to manage the delivery of externally provided products and services, monitor vendor performance, and take corrective action.
  • Leadership expertise to provide senior technical and administrative leadership to an operating or functional unit with multiple teams.
  • Experience leading and managing simultaneous projects to tight deadlines, monitoring project activities for adherence to timelines, and project performance objectives.
  • Standard office computer applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to maintains and update manuals.
  • Must have the ability if needed to commute between locations in the region and to work occasionally on shift that may involve the afternoon or nights and/or the occasional weekend cover.
