PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
You will assist with the planning, scheduling and assignment of manpower to specific jobs within the Freight Car Repair and Freight Car Inspection, ensuring that all repairs and/or servicing are performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with Company, AAR and TC regulations.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conduct job briefings, end of shift briefings, safety meetings and activities, ensuring that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to thorough proficiency testing and safety tracking document
- Correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigates for corrective actions to the various departments, involving the Health and Safety Committee in the prescribed timelines
- Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators. Leads to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for
- Communicate and interact regularly with management within field operations to ensure Freight Car repair and train servicing is meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
- Ensure that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and is responsible for ordering within prescribed limits through the SAP system. Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives
- Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with local union officials. Ensures the collective agreement is understood and managed as it is written
- Support and participate in Consequence Leadership, provide employees both Positive and Constructive Feedback throughout shift
- Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation. Support Lean Philosophy and Principals
- Ensure Freight Car bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity and key metrics are met. Coordinate with Field Operations to ensure over the road set-offs of bad order Freight Cars are repaired in a timely manner
- Ensure repairs and train servicing are in compliance with AAR, TC standards and Canadian Pacific policies
- Support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan
- Communicate and interact regularly with local/external counterparts
- Work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams and provides guidance and support to employees to bring about the vision of an empowered and engaged workforce
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a minimum of a High school diploma or mechanical trade certification
- Proficient knowledge of railway operations (road, yard, freight car, mechanical)
- Working knowledge of CPKC systems (CIM, TYES, Nexus, SAP and Wreck Estimator) is an asset
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel
- Knowledge of collective agreement/non- union policies
- Mechanical aptitude

How you will make contributions that matter:
- Carries out preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Trouble shoots and repairs equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production efficiencies are achieved.
- Have responsibility for stock room management and provide order request of parts required for routine and preventive maintenance.

- Minimum 1 year of experience related to food industry, preferably dairy, or high-speed process equipment or packaging experience
- Pneumatics and hydraulics knowledge
- Boiler, refrigeration, and air handling systems experience is an asset
- Able to read Blueprint, must be able to trouble shoot, and have analytical skills
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Group Summary:
Job Responsibilities:
- Receive instructions relative to priority needs and requirements.
- Work with all engineering departments on the design, fabrication, installation and try-out of new and modified equipment.
- Work with other departments in the troubleshooting of equipment and facility concerns;
- Effect repairs in a timely and efficient manner as required.
- Evaluate jobs to be done in relation to tools required and the extent of materials needed;
- Estimate the time required for each job;
- Obtain the necessary equipment, tools and parts required to do the job through various means including the toolcrib, toolroom or through special orders;
- Communicate fabricated part requirements to engineering and toolroom through the use of basic sketches;
- Read and interpret blueprints for equipment and parts;
- Carry out any preventative maintenance work as required by the company preventative maintenance program; including Hydroulics, Conveyors, and Pumps.
- Operate the fork lift and high lift as required;
- Troubleshoot plc and control program issues.
- Work is completed through use of milling machines, drill presses, assorted grinders, lathes, various welders, measuring equipment and computers;
- Assist other maintenance departments and personnel as required;
- Liaise with all other departments including production, toolroom, engineering and quality control in the performance of duty;
- Through the purchasing department, liaise with outside contractors and suppliers;
General Points
- Ensure that all environmental requirements are identified and addressed when performing duties.
- Ensure that all safety requirements are being carried out when performing duties.
- Comply with defined Business Management and Environmental Management Systems requirements.
- Provide support for the continuous improvement initiatives within Techform.
- Provide support in the attainment of Techform's operating system goals as outlined by the key graphs.
- Carry out all duties focusing on the goal of internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or designate.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Shift: Fixed Afternoons or Rotating
- Certified Millwright with the appropriate papers;
- Pre-employment training includes the making of general repairs to equipment involving knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems;
- Knowledge of welding principles is an asset;
- Ability to read detailed machine blueprints;
- Attention to detail is key as position involves work on equipment which is not easily replaced.
- Ability to work under general direction with independently set objectives;
