Dispatcher Full-time Job

The scope of this position is to be responsible for dispatching units to pickup and delivery freight, monitoring the performance of drivers and ensuring customer timelines are adhered to.
How You’ll Help:
- Assign pick up requests and coordinate deliveries
- Assign appointment freight deliveries to trucks, manifest shipments, and check for expedited shipments
- Answer phones from drivers and customers
- Coordinate daily P&D requirements
- Monitor driver performance and report finding to manager
- Identify areas for improvement and efficiencies
- Perform clerical duties for compliance and broker pay as required
- Other related duties as may be required
Your Skills and Experience:
- An understanding of the geography of Atlantic Canada
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Transportation background in dispatch, dock supervision is an asset
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Equipment knowledge is an asset
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to implement proactive solutions to support operational demands and efficiencies
- Results focused
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to manage demands and resolve issues with drivers, coworkers, etc.
- Must have a strong sense of urgency
- Good communication skills
- Must be able to work under a flexible work schedule
- Must be a hands-on operator, trainer, coach and mentor
- Must be able to build and maintain relationships
- Must be a self-starter
- English required; other languages an asset but not required
- This position will be accountable to the Hub Manager and will receive general guidance as needed

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Transportation/travel experience: Local, short-haul
Type of trucking and equipment: Dry bulk, straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles), tractor-trailer, and tractor-trailer B train
Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
Credentials: Air Brakes Endorsement, Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi-trailer trucks), Class 3/3F/DF Licence (trailer truck, vehicles with more than 3 axles), and Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)
Security and safety: Driving record check (abstract)
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be comfortable with weight handling, up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs)
Candidate Status:

Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials, oversee the condition of the vehicle, and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment
- The candidates should be able to perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, oversee all aspects of the vehicle, and record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption

The Shunt Driver is responsible for ensuring proper, safe and timely handling of inbound and outbound trailers within the Terminal Yard. The successful candidate must ensure they maintain a clean work environment with a focus on proper handling techniques and safety.
How You’ll Help:
- Move trailers to and from the dock doors.
- Park and organize equipment in the yard.
- Conduct a yard check, which includes recording trailer numbers, refer settings, fuel level, trailer contents or seal numbers.
- Conduct reefer check including unit number, reefer settings and fuel level.
- Seal trailers and verify required.
- Ensure yard is clean and operated in a safe manner.
- Assist Line haul and P&D Drivers with locating, positioning and other equipment requirements.
- Assist on Dock regularly.
- Moving and handling large and cumbersome freight in a dock environment (50-75 lbs)
- Operating a Forklift in congested areas.
- Report any incidents of safety violation or security breaches.
- Other related duties as may be required.
Your Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of Secondary education
- Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred; at least 1-year experience driving a shunt truck is preferred.
- Class 1 license preferred but not necessary with applicable experience.
- Forklift Certification.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Self-motivated.
- Safety-minded.
- Communication skills – good.
- Able to work deadlines in high transactional environment.
- Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues.
- Results focused.
- English, other languages considered an asset
- Able to work with little supervision
