Position Summary: This position performs entry level labourer duties within the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department for various work units which include:

  • Irrigation/Athletic Fields

All successful candidates will be required to perform physical labour outdoors in all types of weather. Depending on operational needs, the position may require working non-standard hours, including weekends.

 

All candidates must possess the following:

  • A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license

  • A proactive team member that contributes to a positive work environment

Golf Courses

 

Job Duties: This position consists of maintenance at one of four City operated golf courses: Tor Hill, Murray, Joanne Goulet and Lakeview Par 3.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in golf course maintenance, irrigation, operating turf equipment and string trimmers
  • Valid Pesticide Applicators License is an asset but not a requirement

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

  • $25.32 per hour, after successful completion of training

 

Forestry

 

Job Duties: The City of Regina Forestry team is assigned to maintain the overall health of Regina’s Urban Forest which includes trees and shrubs in boulevards, residential street trees and trees in parks and other open space. This position consists of general tree maintenance. The typical duties in Forestry include tree pruning, tree removals, chipping and stumping. In most cases, shop and equipment maintenance tasks will also be assigned.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience using chainsaws and pruning saws
  • Aerial truck operations and brush chipper experience
  • Valid 1A or 3A license and ISA Certification is considered an asset but not a requirement

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

  • $25.32 per hour, after successful completion of training

 

Horticulture

 

Job Duties: This position involves a variety of general labour tasks, including planting and maintaining flower beds, as well as planting, watering, and maintaining trees and shrubs but could also include litter-picking, string trimming, irrigation system operation, painting, turf management, tree and shrub planting and maintenance, rototilling, weeding and cleaning maintenance shops.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience planting flowers and knowledge of plant species is preferred
  • Completion of some horticultural courses are an asset but not a requirement

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

  • $18.02 per hour, with opportunities to advance to $25.32 per hour, depending on operational needs  

 

Integrated Pest Management

 

Job Duties: This position consists of general labour maintenance involving insect, weed and animal control. There are several pest programs that include: mosquito control, tree spraying, gopher control and herbicide application. 

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience with insects, weed, animal control is preferred.
  • Valid Pesticide Applicators License is an asset but not a requirement.

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

  • $18.02 per hour, with opportunities to advance to $25.32 per hour, once obtaining a valid Pesticide License 

 

Open Space Services Lab

Job Duties: The OSS Lab assists Forestry and Integrated Pest Management with insect and disease monitoring for urban forest and related human health.  This includes monitoring for issues such as Dutch Elm Disease, Cankerworm monitoring and Mosquito populations.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience with insects and diseases related to urban forestry and human health.
  • Valid Pesticide Applicators License is an asset but not a requirement

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

Parks Maintenance

The typical duties include litter-picking, string trimming, irrigation system operation, graffiti removal, painting, turf management, tree and shrub maintenance, rototilling, garbage handling, flower planting, shoveling soil or other material, weeding, cleaning depots and other general labour duties in the open space and depots.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Experience using string trimmers, mowers, pruning saws, rototillers and hand tools 
  • Valid Pesticide Applicators License is considered an asset but not a requirement

 

Typical Rate of Pay:

Cemeteries

 

Job Duties: This position conducts general labour maintenance duties at either the Regina Cemetery or the Riverside Cemetery. The typical duties include litter-picking, string trimming, irrigation system operation, painting, turf management, tree and shrub maintenance, rototilling, garbage handling, flower planting, shoveling soil or other material, levelling graves or monuments, weeding, cleaning depots and other general labour duties.

Job Duties: Under the supervision of the Irrigation Worker II or III, this position performs a variety of preventative, emergency and restoration maintenance to various components, which make up the City of Regina’s irrigation systems located at parks, boulevards, medians, athletic fields, golf courses and cemeteries. Typical duties include extensive shoveling soil or other material, repairs or replacement to irrigation lines, valves, sprinkler and fitting, operate and maintain City vehicles, specialized equipment and tools related to irrigation, and assist in overhauling specialized irrigation components including pumping equipment, control equipment, meters and sprinklers.

This is an intermediate technical position that, through assignments of medium complexity, contributes to the delivery of new business solutions and to the maintenance, enhancement, and support of existing ones.  This position requires strong problem-solving skillset to tackle complex GIS programming challenges when designing and implementing GIS solutions.

 

This position reports to the Coordinator Geospatial Technical Services.  The position will be working with other employees, so excellent interpersonal skills such as conflict resolution, communication and leadership skills are considered an asset. The person will be required and expected to work independently.

 

The Programmer Analyst ll focuses on the maintenance and support of the City’s geographic information systems (GIS) platform, as well as the administration and support of computer-aided design (CAD), global positioning systems (GPS) software, and related geospatial tools for the organization. The role requires a solid understanding of GIS concepts, principles, and spatial data management. The nature of the role will rely on creative solutions, so strong problem-solving skills are a must.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • For programming assignments of medium complexity, this position is responsible for the development of business solutions that meet business area requirements. This will include program design, programming, unit testing, system testing, acceptance testing, and implementation.
  • This position will provide analysis services for medium-sized assignments and projects. It will also be responsible for preparing appropriate documentation.
  • Contribute to the support of existing business solutions by maintaining (analyzing and correcting problems), developing, testing, and implementing enhancements to them, and by updating system documentation.
  • Develop timelines and budgets for assigned work, monitor timelines and report regularly to the immediate supervisor the progress and status of all assignments.

Key Qualifications

  • Two to three years experience that includes program design, programming, unit testing, system testing, acceptance testing, and implementation specifically for geospatial and related technologies (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, FME, AutoCAD, QGIS, etc.)  The role requires proficiency in programming languages commonly used in GIS development, such as Python, JavaScript, or R
  • Should have working experience with GIS Libraries and Frameworks like ArcGIS API for Python, ArcGIS JavaScript API, Leaflet, OpenLayers, and GDAL.
  • Knowledge and experience in administering and working with spatial databases like Oracle, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, SQL Server within the ArcGIS Framework with an understanding of spatial queries and how to optimize them.  Additional experience with, RDBMs (Oracle, SQL Server) and other GIS, GPS, and CAD-based toolsets would be considered an asset.
  • Expertise in developing web mapping applications using technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.  It would be beneficial if the applicant has development experience using swagger and micro-processing.
  • Working knowledge and experience with contemporary system design and development tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current Information Technology Service Management processes.
  • Knowledge of current project management standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Functioning as a core member of the operational team and reporting to the Manager/ Supervisor as a Cleaner you may be required to perform some of the following tasks as required by the Manager/Supervisor and needs of the client:

  • Clean floors by sweeping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.

Job Requirements:
