As an Operations Supervisor, you are responsible for the supervision of the overall dock operations, including day to day processes and procedures, Drivers, and Dock Workers, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance.

How You’ll Help: 

  • Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers) and Drivers (company and broker drivers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal. 
  • Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behavior, absenteeism, etc. to the Regional Manager. 
  • Communicate monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance.
  • Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.
  • Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective/preventative measures are implemented.
  • Hold effective, weekly tailgate meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed.
  • Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives.
  • Ensure the schedule for the terminal is followed. 
  • Work with the Terminal Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock.
  • Other duties as required

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
  • Forklift certified
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • WHMIS certified
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a terminal setting, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Experience leading a team of front line employees, managers, and supervisors
  • Contributing to the development of and managing to an annual operating budget.
  • Strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate and drive engagement to achieve objectives, facilitate conflict resolution, and to provide training
  • Advanced communication skills, particularly verbal
  • Computer skills, including the use of MS Word, Excel & Outlook, and web based programs as well as RF scanners. Experience using AS400, a strong asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills including customer focus
  • Results driven
  • Appropriate sense of urgency
  • Strong sense of safety; training and experience in similar safety sense environments a strong asset

Lead role responsibilities (30%)

  • Coordinate office Health, Safety & Environment requirements in partnership with the HSE team 
  • Manage Office Reception, maintain office and kitchen supplies and organization, oversee Janitorial and other office vendors
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and courier items
  • Manage workloads for a team of administrative professionals and delegate tasks to team members
  • Assist senior staff with management of travel and expenses

What you will bring to the team:

  • Proven experience in administration and a confident team leader able to supervise staff working across the Region
  • Confidence to identify areas for development and training of the Administrative team.
  • Knowledgeable with all applications of Microsoft 365 Familiarity with Salesforce and SAP Concur would be an asset.

Main Purpose & Function

Reporting to the Senior Fleet Engineer, the Business Analyst is responsible for senior analytical and business/systems consulting work, as well as managing technology projects for Fleet and Manufacturing Services. Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Senior level Business Analyst:

  • Leading strategic planning of technology needs, future direction and deployment for Fleet and Manufacturing Services. This may include working with departmental business groups to identify business requirements, and with IT groups to identify technology requirements; participating in or conducting meetings as required. 
  • Conducting business process analysis (using Lean/ Six Sigma or similar methodologies) to conduct value stream mapping, analyze business requirements, identify relevant KPIs, complete current state analysis, develop future state recommendations and build an implementation plan.
  • Creating and presenting project and business level reports or topics to project team members, project stakeholders and senior executives, including creating and distributing communications materials.

 

Project Management:

  • Responsibility will cover all aspects of project delivery from planning out the projects in detail, clearly identifying project scope, budget and schedule as well as project risks, project organization and the project management approach.
  • Participating in confidential planning that may have City-wide operational and financial implications, developing and making recommendations that may result in the re-assignment of responsibilities between staff or organizational units within the City, and in the reduction of or increase to staff complement.

 

Operational Data and Informatics Analyst:

  • Supporting end users in developing dashboards and metrics reports using various tools.
  • Assisting the business in tracking, reporting and producing status dashboards on key performance indicators (KPIs)-metrics.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess the following current and valid certificates:

  • National Lifeguard Pool certification
  • National Lifeguard Waterfront certification*
  • CPR Basic Rescuer “C” Certificate
  • Standard First Aid

 

*Candidates who have not yet obtained their Waterfront certification, but are registered in an upcoming course, are encouraged to also apply.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operation of machines, e.g. forklifts, palletizers (2), stretch wrappers (2), power floor sweeper, pallet splitter & baler

  • Relief for machine operators and daily breaks

  • Preparing bills of loading in SAP or other supply chain computer program

  • Responsible for all HACCP and EH&S procedures in the department which includes but is not limited to: trailer inspections, forklift inspections and cleaning

  • Receiving of incoming materials, completing documentation and general knowledge of chemical containment area

  • Recording of palletizer breaks

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent. Post-secondary education considered an asset

  • High energy, strong teamwork and ability to learn

  • Flexible and adaptable to change

  • Exceptional work, discipline and attendance record

  • Ability to follow health and safety rules and procedures

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with co-workers

  • Comfortable with morning or afternoon shift

  • Fork-lift experience, at least 1 year preferred

  • Comfortable wearing/ using safety equipment at all times

  • Willingness to learn supply chain related computer programs

  • Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management System) considered an asset

Main Purpose and Function

The Operations Worker IV position is skilled manual work of some variety and complexity.  The duties involve the use of specialized skills including those required for small equipment operations and the work generally requires accuracy and precision.  The work is performed under general supervision.  The work is subject to review during progress or on completion in terms of workmanship, overall results, efficiency and/or conformity to established standards.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

This position will be on our stumping and planting team. The general duties of the role will include but not be limited to all duties associated with planting, operating stump grinders, driving trucks with trailers, reading and comprehending plans for underground utility locating, and more. In addition, an Operations Worker IV operates hand guided mobile and stationary equipment used in the detection of underground utilities and the removal of invasive species from Parks spaces according to current best management practices.  Some other work may include directing and assisting in other required work tasks, occasionally driving a light truck to transport materials, tools and equipment and crew members to worksites. Performs related work as required.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Up to completion of high school supplemented by related courses where applicable and sound related experience in one or more areas of skill development
  • Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of safe operation of mobile and stationary maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of the standard specifications, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in stump removal and invasive plant management.
  • Working knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work.
  • Ability to work from blueprints or sketches and to understand line and grade markers and instructions.
