The P&D Planner will be responsible for planning, organizing and monitoring incoming and outgoing freight to ensure the most timely and efficient utilization of dock space, equipment and movement of freight.

How You’ll Help

  • Creating routes/load plans that take all business requirements into consideration [customer experience, operational efficiencies & increased cost savings for the company and our driver/broker community.
  • Review route/load plan within system and initiate adjustments to the plan as required, inclusive of appointment freight.
  • Trigger optimization, if necessary to ensure P&D plan is aligned.
  • Ensure all trailer and route planning in accordance with transportation laws and company policies regarding weight and weight distribution, cbing, transportation of dangerous goods are being followed.
  • Plan dock loading, unloading and staging locations as well as monitor and execute dock door assignments.
  • Monitor and review close times and productivity, noting trends to support improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure shipments are status coded when being added and/or removed from load plan
  • Making suggestions for improvement in planning and dock processes for increased efficiency.
  • Other related duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • A minimum secondary education, with preference for post-secondary education in supply chain and logistics management.
  • A suitable combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered 
  • Minimum of two-three years’ experience in dock and/or P&D dispatch operations, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Other experience in the transportation industry may be considered and in addition to dock/dispatchexperience would be considered an asset. 
  • Strong communication skills in both English and French.
  • Advanced computer skills as well as experience with MS Office products and web-based programs. Previous experience with Truckmate and Bringg is an asset.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Analytical thinker, able to analyze data and make operational decisions based on that data.

JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City of Ottawa. 

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Truck and Coach Technician, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspection of vehicles*, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work , and performing daily maintenance repairs.  You perform all unit changes or repairs to Fleet vehicles (including but not limited to transmission, brakes, suspensions, electrical components, injectors, radiators, steering, differentials and air systems) and make miscellaneous adjustments to doors, destination signs and other vehicle systems.

vehicles*-refers to buses within the Transit Fleet Maintenance Division and any other Fleet vehicle within the Municipal Maintenance Division (cars/trucks, forklifts, etc.). 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours

Completion of advanced technical courses is an asset

Minimum of 1 year of experience following attainment of certification

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe for our customers
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair, including the repair of brakes suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs accurately.

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
  • Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
  • Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance
  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision
  • Undertake road call diagnosis and repair 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a valid - Truck and Coach Technician (310T) certificate and maintain it in good standing, demonstrating expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues.
  • Must have a valid G Driver’s License; D or C Ontario Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement is preferred with a Driving Abstract acceptable to the city.
  • A preferred asset would be a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications Automotive Service Technician (310S) as well.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, afternoons, days, and stat holidays with various off days 

Additional Skills

  • Experience with electronic multiplexed Heavy Duty diesel engine and automatic transmission vehicles is preferred

Reporting to the Foreperson, Facilities Maintenance, responsible for the day-to day maintenance of all Transit facility assets. 

 

  • Performs day-to-day maintenance of Transit Facilities and equipment.
  • Assists the Millwright and/or Utility person when needed.

EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & LICENCES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in operating a 4-wheel drive truck equipped with trailer.
  • Experience in operating a 4-wheel drive truck equipped with snow plow and salter.
  • Experience in general shop maintenance, including general carpentry, plumbing.
